Hey guys,
I'm brand new to the forums. I am soon going to be purchasing a 02 LS from a local dealer, and the first thing I'm trying to do is put as much power under the hood without spending a lot. I was looking at power chips on ebay that claim to add from 20 to 60 hp and 5-20 MPG. The one that surprised me the most is the one on the link below. Do these chips decrease the life of the engine? If these things are so good, why doesn't every car have them? Do I really get 60 HP and or 20 plus MPG for under 20 bucks? I would like to know just about everything there is to these things. Thanks everyone, Austin.

Don't waste your money, it's just a little resistor that tricks your ecu into thinking it's drawing on cold air, you'll throw a CEL within a week.

there are many threads on this - these are a scam and do not work on modern computer controlled cars. This is ismply a resistor that fakes on the IAT to trick the car into thinking it's 40 below outside, therefore overfueling and running rich. It does not mean more power, and after sometime the car will actually begin to ignore that input and throw a error code.

There are no cheap / easy ways to add power - like any other car - all the standard bolt-ons at a slightly higher price due to the unique powertrain.

Power costs money.

The only thing that thing does is lighten your wallet, meaning less weight in the car = faster car.

:D

alright that's too bad. I thought something was wrong with the picture, but not really sure. Anyways, how about an air filter? Do you get better MPG and/ or power? Which brand filters are better than others? Thanks guys. Also, I've been looking at some of the other LS's on the site, and I love some of their headlights. Some of them have blue bulbs in the turn signal position, and the background of the turn signal isn't orange like stock. Are these all just home custom modifications or can you buy full headlights/bulbs(I assume you could, but where?)/or turn signal back drops. If you don't know what I mean, below I posted a link to the headlights that I adore. Its the third picture on the page.

K&N is the best, IMO. I wouldn't say you'd notice the power from just replacing the stock air box filter. But if you need to replace it anyway, might as well buy the K&N and have it be the last one you buy.

Or, instead of spending 40-50 bucks on the filter, just splurge on a 89.95 KKM intake from www.lskoncepts.com

I'm assuming you're getting a V8. I don't know if KKM makes a kit for the V6.

Don't expect to get a lot of extra horses out of this engine without spending some $$$. Intake, exhaust, and XCal tuner are the only "bolt on" mods for these vehicles, and those 3 combined will set you back about 1200-1500 depending on labor on the exhaust, and only gain about the necessary horses to compete with a gen 2 (2003-2006) in stock form.

Yea I'll be getting an 03 V8. What's the difference between an air filter and an intake? THanks so much, you guys are such a help. Also, is there anyway you could put a K&N filter on a kurtz intake? Would that make much of a difference or no? also GWL, wehre did you get that nice mclaren grille?

I see this is your second post - there are many many threads on the topic of enhancing performance - intake, exhaust, suspension, tuning, N2O, engine swaps, turbos, supercharging....

spend a little time search some past threads - there are many good discussions that you'll miss by simply restarting a new thread.

http://www.lskoncepts.com/ for both. Here is what tyhe KKM looks like, or you can get just the KKM and use your own filter.

alright sweet. does this intake make the sound of the car sound any different? Also, will I see a better MPG with this intake? I've been doing a a little research on how engines work, and after 2 hours, it's crazy how much I've learned. I've also been reading about how many LS owners are having various problems with their rides, and its's scaring me :[ What should I expect? One more thing, I've read a lot of people talking about Maggies. What in the world are maggies? Thanks.
