Lower Control Arm

I'm also disillusioned with the upper arm... but at least they don't look like they could break by hitting a bump in the road.

not after seeing MANY other cars over the years,its pretty solid compared to some of the crap out there. i have seen some pisspoor stamped steel arms that were less than 1/4 " thick ,if you jacked it up there you could bend them easily
 
I think the whole front end is a cruddy design. I am especially very fond of the way the front sway bar is mounted.

ok then here maybe you will change that statement, this was from slamming a pot hole.....

it bent everything and ripped the 4 front k member bolts right out of the frame and punched a hole 6 inches in diameter into the engine block, totalled, all because of dog crap suspension, how many people can say they blew a 6 inch hole in their engine block because they bent a control arm?????
 
Very weak design.... maybe in 20 years the mark viii will be highly collectible and someone will make a bad ass k member set up for it... lol its fun to dream.
 
KK, I got 13 years out of mine before replacing all, both uppers and lowers. But I can't testify as to their engineering skill by Lincoln. Can't personally complain really. I've hit potholes plenty of times Jamie, NY winters etc., with only a need for front end alignments which are COSTLY. Looks like that silver Mark hit a sink hole, not a pot hole. But I do believe you. Glad it wasn't mine.
 
you want to see some flimsy front suspension setups go to the junk yard and look at the foreign sub compact cars. most of them are litteraly a couple of tubes and an a-arm

the point of this thread was what is thought of the front suspension, people dont hit potholes on purpose, i posted the picture of that 98 up because that was a pot hole, and it did that much damage, the pot hole was 6 inches deep and a mere 10 in diameter, going 75 you would have blasted right over it with very little indication you hit it, but at 45 it ripped the car apart and shattered the factory snowflake inside the tire. most cars can take a pothole this size with ease, and this was when i lived in mass, so the roads up there are alot worse then florida, that pic was taken in my back yard. the point in the picture was my opinion on the front end, poor design and it is weak, the question was asked, thats my opinion.

its Audi's. pretty much the same,

simply put,this setup is like many front suspensions on th road,but better in some areas because Lincoln used strong cast metal instead of bent / stamped metal ,i am not saying its the best,but its better than alot of others

agreed, except i only have to look in my driveway, the lincoln mark VIII looks like a tank compared to my hyundai elantras arems, 1 1/4" tubing if that
