They had bought me my plane ticket and I had spent a week preparing and packing. Well 20 hrs before departure they called and said they changed their minds and didn't need me . So since I was home I searched the classified adds as always and bingo found another 97 Mark VIII. Still trying to decide if we are going to part it or make a race car out of it. That will be up to my nephew Charles. It has the Black interior I wanted :D

So you have no job, and you go buy another Mark, for the interior and possible race car??

There's some magical trick to being unemployed that I haven't figured out yet, I have a job and still can't afford stuff

Sorry about that. But I lived frugally and saved the max. that I could in my 401K, plus I did with out and paid cash for everything for over 20 years. Also I'm not collecting unemployment either. For the last year I have lived on what I sold the Cobra for. That includes helping my brother in his time of need. And others. But if it becomes a drag car it will be because of my nephew Charles. If not I will probably just part it out.

I like to tell that story because it is a good life's lesson. 25 years ago I lost everything except debt. I swore that it would never happen again and started living like I said. Same time I started working at Black & Decker as a Machinist for 8.00 an hr.. 20 years later when they closed the plant I was making 16.00 hr so I never made a lot of money just manage and spent it well. Hell I rode a bicycle the first two years I worked at Black & Decker. Hoping to make something on this car though.

100,000 but the interior looks like a rumble took place in it. luckily the leather is still good but its busted up. All of which I can fix from parts from my other parts car but it just needs so much work. I posted it in the parts for sale section just as a possibility to help decide its fate. Sorry to tease if we don't part it but it will help us to make the best decision. Thank you, Don.

Its funny I had tried to buy this car a couple years ago. It was owned by someone I didn't know but that lived in my neighborhood. I noticed it had sat for a year without moving and was slammed. I saw him outside one day and stopped. He said it had 90,000 miles and was his wifes and they didn't want to sell it. Soon there after that I saw it was pumped back up and being used. A few months later it started sitting again and a little over a year ago I saw they were moving and it was still sitting there and slammed. I saw him working on the roof one day and stopped and offered him 2,000 for it as it sat and he said no that they were going to fix it up and sell it for 3,000. They rented the house and the renter bought the Mark VIII. I notice him moving a few months ago and I hadn't seen him or the Mark since. It was at a garage a couple blocks from me being held on a mechanics lean. So no title.

I believe you can get it just by paying off the lien. Then you get a title. If its not to bad, I would really appreciate you saving the car. It looks too nice to part out or make a race car out of.

I would think it would have a longer life if we made it a drag car. But that would be my nephews project. It needs a lot. Windshield, Battery, Drivers rear view mirror, Rear Neon, Body work and paint, Interior is all busted up. And mechanically all I know is it starts and doesn't rattle or smoke and moves forward and backward. I'll bet there is a lot more wrong with it. I already have 3 cars + my wifes car so I do not want it for my self. And I have no source of income. Plus I like my Black on Black 98 LSC better. So I'm hoping to make a little on this one.

Id strip the drivetrain out and put in a stroker SBF, c4 or 5 speed with a 9" and make a nice street/strip car out of it..never seen it done before (besides the few mark viiis with tube chassis' and big blocks or crazy turbo motors like tom kaspers or whoever owns it now) keep it full interior and fix the body and repainted it. Wouldn't be cheap but can't imagine it would be that much more than some of these guys who have fully restored their marks or are in the process.

My nephew Charles wants to run the stock drive train with just bolt ons and nitrous. Plus stripping out any unnesasary weight. It should be faster than mine.

Any pictures of the interior ?? And the parts that needs to b fixed
