Kind of long story as to why I was looking for acceleration speeds and fell onto this. I have a post on YouTube of a friends GTO Judge and some guy posted a comment that his Fiat is faster than any American Muscle car ever built. So it got me to search for numbers on his Ferrari V6 powered Fiat and it wasn't all that.

Then I came onto a list for Lincolns on the page and well the Mark series is it as far a speed go's for Lincolns. Although there are some that are fairly close

Lincoln

1980 Lincoln Continental Mark VI 11.0 17.9
1990 Lincoln Continental 11.4 18.4
1995 Lincoln Continental 7.7 15.9
2000 Lincoln LS V8 7.5 15.7
2002 Lincoln LS 7.9 16.1
1986 Lincoln Mark VII LSC 8.4 16.6
1992 Lincoln Mark VII LSC 7.8 16.2
1993 Lincoln Mark VIII 7.1 15.4
1995 Lincoln Mark VIII 7.6 15.8
1996 Lincoln Mark VIII 7.2 15.4
1998 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC 7.0 15.3
1973 Lincoln Town Car 460ci 10.4 17.6
1975 Lincoln Town Car Coupe 460ci 10.5 17.9
1990 Lincoln Town Car 10.2 17.5
1998 Lincoln Town Car Touring Sedan 7.9 16.1
2003 Lincoln Town Car 9.5 16.8
1977 Lincoln Versailles 351ci 12.6 18.4

Those numbers are good for general reference but there have been more then a few Mark VIIIs the broke into the 14s bone stock. And the Gen2(03+) LSs can break 14s stock with a good driver

Yeah stock for stock the LS will take a Mark VIII. They walk pretty easily from a roll too. I was surprised how nice the little 3.9 pulls(until the COPs go that is)

2000-2002 LS will NOT keep up with any normal runnig stock mark viii, period,

after 2002 the LS gained variable timing and a good bump in "across the board " hp/tq

03+ ls are anywhere from dead even to a gen 1 to occasional a length ahead.

The New MKS with Ecoboost is estimated to run 0-60 in ~ 5.3 seconds with a 13.8-14.1 quarter mile

sounds nice.

I love these discussion.. LOL..

Being a Mark VIII person and well I don't think I'd ever own an LS I'm pulling for the Mark VIII especially the Gen 1s LOL...

But I'm guessing that there are some LSers who could pull away and I'm guessing I can do the same to some LSers..

But I like the style of the Mark VIII and the 4.6 much better than the LS or it's 3.9 engine that is hard to modify.

To make everyone hate me I beleive my next car after I'm done with all the years of the Mark VIII.. hmmm Mustang LOL...

I have yet to find a LS at the dragstrip that could even "come close" to "making a race out of it".

I've probably ran across 20 or so LS's at the dragstrip...
EVERY ONE got a nifty view of my tail lights.

in BOTH my first gen and my slow turd second gen.

Haven't 1/4'd my 1st gen Mark, but it'd probably match my 1st gen LS, which ran 15.2 in the 1/4.

LS's are a heck of alot nicer driving though, perfect balance, 140mph is very stable, wouldn't want to try that in the Mark.

I am very surprised with the Mark VIII stability at high speed. Does the Mark have less drag/resistance or whatever you call the aerodynamic measurement?

Yeah I pulled that list of a Modular Ford site and it had a ton of cars on it. Struck me as a bit odd that they omitted those 2 years of Marks

maybe they didnt have tests on those two years

dont worry, i tested it for them. ;)

You are a drag racing God. Nobody stands a chance against your superior quarter mile skills!!!

Or maybe it has more to do with the LS drivers not having that one mod needed. The driver mod.

you are correct, nah.. I aint a god..but alot of drivers I run across could use some improvement.

a few thousand passes under my belt IS a very distinct advantage THAT I indeed left out..

In all honesty I did leave out an LS full of kids that whacked me pretty good from a traffic light tho..but in my defense, I dont street race and I really only wanted to see how far I could "push them"... I really didn't WANT to be in front.

I wont say it's impossible for an LS to be a VIII.

hell I could probably beat my car with an LS if I put the typical dragstrip n00b in my car and drove his LS.

I agree, more times than not a driver will make more difference than any platform wide performance differences.

You are a drag racing God. .

yea well.. YOU and your car would kick the dogmess out of 99% of the VIII's I see at the dragstrip as well.

and in my current "TURD" I would have to depend on "treeing the crap out of you" if I was even gonna try to make a race out of it.

I doubt seriously that you sitting in your drivers seat would have any chance of seeing my tailights...

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers for the Mark VIII guys. I'm one of them but after owning both the LS is definitely faster then my Mark VIII was stock. And XLRVIII 14.79 is fast for a 2nd Gen Mark is it's still stock.

As far as the Gen1 LS I was pretty surprised but out of a group of about half a dozen Mark VIIIs a bone stock LS pulled on all of them except a chipped Gen1 VIII and my car which isn't stock.
