I recently came across a story online about a guy with a collector truck. He was rearended by an uninsure driver. Allstate was the insurance provider. Allstate refuses to cover all the restore work on the truck. They offered him $1100 for a truck that is worth 10 times that easily.

Anyway, I also have Allstate for my LS and other vehicles. I called Allstate and asked several questions about coverage for my LS. I found that I would be screwed in any accident. None of the custom work would be covered.

My agent suggested Hagerty. I had heard of them and thought about Hagerty in the past just never did anything about it. My agent went ahead and contacted Hagerty for me. Needless to say, Hagerty will cost me a little over half of what Allstate premiums are for the year. They cover parts and labor. They cover every area of the car. I was shocked and impressed with how detailled they got. I am currently waiting to heear back from the underwriter.

I suggest some of you guys might want to look into Hagerty for yourselves.

No custom work would be covered like what? Your subs in the trunk? aftermarket body kit? Aftermarket wheels?

May be a restricted insurance. A typical collector policy has to be on a older car and has a set payout, insure for 10k and if she gets totalled thats what you get, not sure if this is the type of policy. Car can't be drivin to work only for cruizing. My brother has several cars insured that way.

I no I can add to my policy to cover stuff like wheels and such, just don't see it as worth it.

I insure my LS through AllState and they said they cover any aftermarket. Even stuff like the angel eyes.

I suppose as long as you provide receipts, and they add the amount to the coverage amount on your policy, there should be no issue. But what if that custom pickup dude didn't tell his insurance about any of the mods? They are insuring him for a stock vehicle. I don't see why they would pay him more than what was listed on the policy.

I think it is more of a prove you bought it and it was installed on the vehicle @ the time of the accident.

When I got my car quoted for estimate repairs by AllState - they noticed I had angel eyes in one of my headlights, and the other - was obviously broken. But they said they would give me the price of a new angel eye kit on top of the damage already done. So I think it is just a matter of dealing with the right people there. They were very polite and they loved my car.

It is however, more expensive than alot of other people's insurance that I have talked to... I am not sure why, but with the extent of the coverage I feel it is justified...

Plus getting in wrecks that are technically your fault, does not help the monthly payments! :D

My Allstate agent explained that there is a limit to how much they will payout on aftermarket parts. I my case. I have about $8k in the LS now. If I had actually paid to have ALL the work done, I would be looking at over $10k easy. I could insure the LS for say $16k($8k what the LS is worth and $8k for mods). But they explain that they would spend up to $16k to find an exact year, make, model to replace the car. NOT THE MODS. If they can find same year, make, model for $12k, they would give me that car and thats it. No extra cash for the mods. So I would still SOL.

All of my vehicles are recreational. I work from home.:)

Due to the highly modified nature of my LS. Hagerty will insure it. I will be insured for the price of the car and ALL of the parts and labor. They also will take into account the parts and equipement I have that is discontinued or rare. We did go over how many miles I drive a year with it. Which is about 2500 miles. So no problem there. Hagerty also has the link to my CarDomain page to reference pictures and more info. So what I lack in receipts. The documented pictures will cover.

I asked State Farm very simular questions about my mark, and they said as long as i could provide proof of the cost of the custom items\work then they would cover it. Unfortunately driving a 14 year old car, it wouldnt take much to total it anyways.

i insure my cars through allsate as well, when i was in highschool i bought a 2000 grandam, i put 5% tint on it, $450 alarm, 18inch wheels, projector headlights and a few other aftermarket stuff throughout the car. i rearended a car one night and ended up totaling the car, when we went to talk to my insurance agent i brought all my reciepts for the stuff i bought, i was thinking i was ony getting about 3 thousand back, ended up getting $7500, they paid me all my money back for the aftermarket things i put on. only things i didnt get my money back was for my intake and they gave me only $800 for the wheels since the wear on the tires and they werent in the best condition. the funny thing is is that there was a for sale sign on the car that said $3500 when i wrecked it. so i came out good and will stay with allstate for that reason.

I had Hagerty on a collector car a few years ago. Unfortunately I did have to make a claim, but I must say they were awesome the whole way through. If it's not your daily driver and they will insure you, go for it!

I am not leaving Allstate. I have had them for 20 years. They insure my house and four cars. I have had a great relationship with them. I would just prefer to have my butt cover with the LS. I doubt Allstate is going to be willing to cut me a check for additional $10k for my mods.
