Hey everyone I am interested in getting an X-cal but I cannot find one that is used anywhere. If anyone ever runs across one or has one for sale could you please keep me in mind? I am also kind of confused as to what an X-cal is!!! All of my previous cars were completely stock so I never really got into all of the mods until now. I don't know if the X-cal is a replacement for the stock ecm? Or is it a programmer that I use to tune the stock ecm? If I get the X-cal is that all I will need to "tune" my car? Thanks everyone for all the help, my car will be back together in a week or two and I will not be asking as many questions!!! Atleast most of the questions that I have asked were'nt something I could have found with the search option. Plus everything I have been helped with has been learned and will always be known now! :) Remember to keep me in mind if you know where one is or have an X-cal for sale. Thanks guys

A "X-cal" is one of SCT's EEC tuning tools. It is the interface that connects to the car's computer to download a tune.

However, you will still need either the software to create your own tunes (SCT's Pro-Racer Package) or you'll need to have a tuner create one for you.

Either way, if you're doing this simply to get around the AIR system removal you've been posting about, you'll spend much more trying to do it this way.

(1)--But I can use my stock computer?

(2)--I have a friend who's brother works at a local speed shop and they do tuning and he is going to write me a tune for free to get my car going!!!

(3)--I was trying to get around the air system, but I also wanted to have it so that I could do some custom tune's after I add "mods" to the car! Because I have some gears I will be putting in after I get it running among a few other things. Somebody told me I could find a used X-cal for around 100 bucks and if I get the tune for free, a hundred dollars will be cheaper than rounding up all of the stuff for the Secondary air injection system!!! Plus it will be faster because I am kind of in a hurry to get the car running. My wife will have to drive it until I get her car going, which will be about two months! After which I will be able to let my Mark be "down for a couple days at a time to get my "mods" installed!!! But which route I will be going is'nt set in stone yet so I will be in touch w/ you and the other guys that had the parts for me. Until I do figure out which route I will be taking! But thanks for the info DLF and when I get my car back from my wife I will be trying to get some parts that you make. I am very impressed w/ all the things I have read on here that you have done. I appreciate the fact that you do things like that to keep these great cars on the road when FORD has given up on them!!! Thanks!!!

Sniper is an alternative and while I liked mine most people here had too many issues. I could write my own tunes and had their Commando version so that does make a difference.

I can tell you though that I like the SCT better.

Sniper is tEh fail. Get an xcal. Just make sure it's unlocked if you buy it used.

Unlocked? WTF is that? Xcals lock themselves to the VIN of the car they are used on. Only way to unlock them is to return the stock tune to the car they are locked to, or to send it into SCT for them to unlock it... For an additional charge. Some say they can unlock them if they are VIN locked, but frankly, I've never seen proof of this. Not saying they can't do it, I just suspect the claims.

+3 or so sct ftw
sniper ftl
i hated the shifts on my sniper even with it set all to stock shift points/firmness it would hold 2nd till around 50 (under light throttle) then chunk it into od (4th) i went round and round with them with minimal answers, i bet if i said i had a mustang they would be eager to help. ive seen countless times on their site where some asks a question about a mark and get stonewalled only to have someone with a rustang come into their thread and ask another question and pat/chris answer them but still ignore the original poster. ive been trying to get the damn drivers for windows 7 to install and he keeps saying the same shyt to do and i do and it dont fukkiung work so i said fukk it went sct and couldnt be happier

Put the computer in XP mode chicken, install the drivers. It should work but you went with SCT. See, this is why I stay stock. Got enough headaches as it is. My luck, the state trooper would write me a ticket for having something that said SCT in my car. Also for not having a compliance sticker. Yeah, I woke up pissed off about yesterday. Sorry OP but you live here and I think you know what I'm saying about the cops we have.

I stand corrected by way of PM.

Apparently, someone on LVC has figured out how to unlock the SCT xcal.

i purchased a total of 5 units over a 2 year period(used) and was able to unlock 2 of them, i think they were the oldest models, the newer ones i could never unlock.

^ Good luck with that! :)

I have an XCal II (the one you really want). And I have SCT Pro Racer software dongle just sitting here gathering dust. What a shame. The software I have only works on EBP2 catch code computers I think. No way around that, so I am pretty much stuck with it. The XCal I returned to stock, so it should be unlocked.

I sent you a PM!!!

FYI - From SCT:

If a Pro Racer purchases a new vehicle and wishes to switch the code that they have access to on their dongle, they may do so for $50.00. SCT will require proof of both ownership and the purchase of the vehicle and we will remove the old code from the dongle and add the new processor code. Use of this option will be limited to 1 time per year.

Well fella's I will still be looking for an X-cal, but I am just going to put my car back together with what I have and if the damn thing does'nt run right I will park it until I have the money to buy a new one because I was just told in a PM that I "have" to have the software also if I do buy an X-cal that is unlocked and that runs about 300 bucks. I don't see why I have to have the software if I have a friend that works at an SCT tuning shop and will write me a tune for free. I thought all I needed was the X-cal to add the tune to the computer! Am I thinking right or wrong???

If you have a friend who is a SCT Tuner, then just ask his advice, and follow it. ;)

Ya.. I am not even really considering the software. Since I can not legally sell it. But I can give it away with a $100 bolt :) lol

I was thinking they would send you the file. They can add it right to the XCal, then no need for software.

edit: Either way, get it together. It will run fine without a tune. No reason to hold up the project.

Yeah I already did that one! He said I needed an X-cal and then he can turn off the EGR and tune my car! So when I asked for an X-cal everyone on here said it would'nt work or it would cost about 400 bucks to make it work so I just got confused!!!
