Lincoln LS Transmission Fill Plug Thread size

Hi everyone. I have searched but came up empty looking for the thread size and pitch for our transmission plugs. I plan on making my own adapter out of NPT pipe or a 3/8ths inch brass air chuck I will run through a die. I carefully worded the title of this post to make future searches by other people more fruitful than mine. My LS is a 2005 V8 but I think the plug is the same across the board. Correct me if I am wrong. Any ideas for a good home made nipple for these transmissions. It is only a $20 part but it is the principal.

I haven't tried it myself, so I have no idea if this is really true.

Bob,you can also fill the tranny by means of a plug on the upper rear of the tranny housing.I did this the last time, and a pump hose fit right into the hole like filling a differential housing. With engine NOT running,fill the tranny until fluid comes out the center hole. Then install the center plug and put in 3 more qts.and put big plug back in. Start engine and when warm if it isn't already, pull the center plug and let it drain until dripping and you have correct level. don-ohio ^)

That is how I bring it up to temperature if it is a little too cold by putting it in fourth gear manual and running it at about 2500 RPMs with the brakes on for about 15 to 20 seconds. Then I let it idle in neutral for about a minute to cool it back down from possible overtemp and equalize the fluid.

It's something I do with heavy equipment like cranes and dozers and the like but we have temperature gauges on those so you can see exactly where you are at any given moment as well as those are much more heavy duty transmissions so you're probably right it's probably not the best thing to do to our hot rod Lincolns.

Thanks Fdr. It screwed right in. Since the level was correct and I was not prepared to drop the pan I never added any fluid. The hose that came with my suction gun looks like it will perfectly fit the pipe nipple no clamp needed. Hopefully I will change my transmission fluid and filter this weekend and I will take some pictures.

1loudls... I like it! A little line lock action! I am fairly certain I do little more than warm up my fluid but I hear their point. I said 2500 rpm not 5200 ;-). It honestly might not have been that high or long. Just off idle and wouldn't even roll up my driveway if I let go of the brakes. It is good to question my technique if only to prevent someone else over doing it and burning up their transmission.

at least with some of the people weve had through here, they would take what you told them, but hold the gas and the brake to the floor for ten minutes and then get mad at you because " it was you" that wrecked their car... lol

Cool thanks! I changed my fluid yesterday and it went great. I didn't end up using a nipple, just stuck the tube in the fill hole and clamped the tube the cross member so it didn't fall out. I used the method outlined here

Except I used a transfer pump that connects to an electric drill that I got at ace for 13$.
I used a measuring bucket for the outflow and stayed at least a quart ahead putting new fluid in. I did four quarts at a time and sure enough after about 12.5 quarts the new fluid started coming out. I was really happy with how it worked out. I spent more time getting the car jacked up than flushing fluid. See picture below for my setup.
I got too cocky though and decided to change the camshaft position sensor on the driver side because I thought it was causing my stalling problem. That thing was a huge PITA and did not fix my problem.
