I had my Alternator replaced Last Friday at Firestone. They charged me $425.00 total.
The Labor was $100.00. The New Alternator was $340.00.
2002 LINCOLN LS V8 (3.9L)
Firestone ordered the Alternator from Carquest Auto Parts (Part#8256AN). I had an idea what
price a (New) Alternator would cost me out the door if I bought it directly from any autoparts store in
my area (Autozone, Oreilly's, Napa, etc...). But, I didn't want to have to search for a "Local" mechanic
who "may" or "may not" have problems due to either bitch bolts, especially since it's removed from the
bottom of the car vs. through the hood. The Carquest Alternator online is priced at $268.00..
Also, Firestone told me they wouldn't install any parts that I purchased myself. Which would've
saved me about $75.00. Luckily at least I got a $45.00 Military Discount. It's almost a week and
I haven't seen any "dummy lights" pop-up. So that's kool.
Also important was I did my own Diagnostic and told them to just replace the Alternator.
So if you happen to go to Firestone, they "might" charge you for a Diagnostics Check ??
If someone has any specifications, info, or prior problems with the Carquest Alternator, Let us know.
I'll do the same...So far so good.
The general experience here is that non-OEM alternators do not work for long on the gen I LS.
Where in San Diego ?? (...which? Firestone, Carquest, or Me ??)
The Firestone, was the one in National City. There is a warranty for both Parts and Labor since they provided both.
I have never known of any shops who's ASE Certified, then provides the parts, then installs those parts, then tell the customers there is
no NO warranty whatsoever. But, as far for how long the warranty is ?? I can't remember specifically, but it's on the back of my Service
ticket/paperwork for the Alternator.
LS4me, what's the info you have for either Firestone or that specific Alternator from Carquest ??
As of today, this was my first major issue/problem (where I spent over +$400 to fix something), and I've had my 2002 LS since 2009. Let me know...if you got info about Firestone or Alternator specs?? Nice to know...
Thanks
