Last night we installed a light bar in my friend's 01 Mustang GT convertable. It was surprisingly easy to install, and the wiring for the brake light was super simple too. The pic is from my cell phone as the sun was going down and we were putting the interior back together. He is slowly turning it into a show car, we will be installing the rear seat tonoue covers soon.

Actually though, has anyone been in an 01 mustang lately, and then gotten back in the LS? Holy cow, what a difference! His 01 mustang has about 70k miles on it, my 01 LS has about 120k miles on it, so I've got about 50k more than him. We both have leather, and mine looks worlds better than his does. The entire interior of the mustang is extremely cheap looking when comparing it to the LS. I sometimes feel like my interior is cheapy when looking at similar model Acuras and such, but it made me feel better after being in his car :D . The plastics and switch gear look waaaaaaaay older than the stuff in my lincoln. If I didn't already know it, I would never had assumed his car was made in the same year as mine. It feels like 10 years older than the lincoln. So....it made me appreciate my car a little more.:L just thought I'd share that.

Well that's the difference between Ford and Lincoln and "Luxury Sport" and just "Sport"

Take the bulbs out for the stock third brake light.

Then when the top is up then you can't see the light bar though, right?

Im not sure if you can see the brake light once the top is up. We didn't get around to that last night.

It's more of a daily driver, that he will enter in shows, so if that fourth brake light is covered when the top is up, it's probably safer to leave the third brake lights installed.

Yeah I knew our lincolns would be nicer, I just never compared them side by side before. I keep seeing these gorgeous interiors in other cars and I sometimes wish mine was nicer. But I realized it could be worse :p .

you have to be carfull where you live to take the bulbs out, here in michigan you can add extra light if you want but if the car came from the factory with the brake light on the trunk lid then it has to work. our state troopers are straight d!cks most of the time, i actually got pulled over by one because i took the bulbs out of my third brake light in my Mark VIII because it had one in the wing when i bought it. if its on the car IT HAS TO WORK, the jack hole kept saying

He should set it up so that he can just unplug a harness on the trunklid when the top is down to turn off the brake lights on it

Whats the big deal about having the extra brake light? I thought it looked fine. It's not like the ones where someone adds a spoiler with a brake light and it sits directly in front of decklid light. Those look bad.

Just like there can be too many headlights/foglamps on a car, there can also be too many brakelights

Yeah you are probably right about too many brake lights, but I feel it looks pretty decent in person. Not that it really matters what I think, it's his car :) he'll do what he wants.

I'm washing my car after work today and going back over there to help with some other things, so I'll try to get some cool pictures.

You should suggest the male to female plugs like glanga stated.

That is a good idea.

There's a kit available to disable the light-bar brake light when the top is up. Not sure how it works, but if he adds that, I'd bet it wouldn't be that hard to disable the trunk-mounted light when the top's down.
