How is everyone? My question for you all is $180 dollars a lot of money for labor to put on front lower ball joints from rock auto (moog) they know about taking them apart and compressing them back. Also I just changed my outer tie rods on the front end so is there anything else I need to do while I have them under there?

Check the condition of all susupension parts. Replace any, if needed. Probably the most effective way to approach it if funds are not of concern to you and safety is.

Shop i work for shows about 3 hours for labor @ 92/hr. Pricey lol

Wow that is a lot of money, well maybe I'm getting a steal on the labor price lol. I will be sure to ask them to check ALL suspension components, because I am concerned of my safety.

Got my lower ball joints repaired today for $225 they said they had to take off the hub etc so they charged me $45 more dollars. Well my car is feeling great seems as if I have a more stiff steering wheel. They also suggest I get my upper control arm he said the ball joints of it are pretty loose.

thanks @marcredd. Do you have any suggestions on getting the upper ball joints done on my car i want to order the Moog also.

I never searched to see if Napa has a listing on upper control arms for our cars. Some have purchased through various online sellers versus paying dealer prices. But beware, some products out there are on the cheap side and not known for lasting.

I just looked on rockauto.com. No listing there for Moog upper control arms. Delco, Motorcraft, and Lemforder.

I just replaced both lower ball joints on my car (well I bought the joint for the pass side too lazy to get it pressed in) the place charges me $40 to just press it in while taking off the hub.
I also just replaced the drivers side upper ball joint because it was toast.. I mean if I turned the corner it would grind pop and just sound horrid, replaced it myself no problem. I think the upper ball joint was around $100
Do the upper yourself and take your knuckle in and get the lowers pressed in.. Good luck!

Ok I'm looking at my invoice from dealership it mentioned my Right Rear tie rod needs replacing. Now I looked on rock auto and it doesn't show a rear tie rod (moog). See if you could find it and I may be overlooking or unlearned that the rear tie rod is the same as the front?

Now that, I would think Napa has a brand, even if not Moog, that would be solid to use. Personally, I like most Napa parts. Give your local store a call.

Tierod ends

Check to see if your rear sway bar links are bad also i just changed my rear tie rod ends and had to also change the sway bar links.
the rubber grease covers were leaking and also loose the new parts came with grease fittings where as the factory links and rod ends had no fittings to grease them when needed.
Do a search and you can find all the factory up grade parts ( sway bar links larger in diameter much stronger)

I found the sway bar moog but I didn't see the rear tie rod ends on rock auto.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but since it is about ball joints.... I have production date 1/02. I do have a LS Sport. Is it 14mm or 16mm? My whole front needs changing as it is, so I will be doing everything. Thank goodness I got a press at work. Makes life and the wallet nice. Also what parts will I need for the rear? Those are shot too, lol. Thanks.

The Deeza version is part # JA-L607 (google this site....). Search for that at your favorite warehouse.
You can also get the Motorcraft part from Maxx at Chapman Ford.

Note that there are differences - aftermarket is a solid bar, while Motorcraft has the flexible coupling. That coupling enables the passive "4 wheel steering". May or may not be worth the extra cost for you.

Anybody have any idea? I got my finger itching on the purchase button, but from what I have read some are 14mm and some are 16mm whether it's sport or not.

Wish I could answer but I do not know. Hite may know off hand since he has an 02. Shoot him a pm.

@centason mines have the same production date and I just ordered my ball joints off of rock auto. I bought the 14mm, now only difference is my ls is NOT sport.

I'm 85% sure it's 16, but I'd just like to feel all warm and fuzzy inside first. Still getting used to the Ford world.

This isn't the Ford world, closer to the Jaguar world.
Same chassis, debored variant of the 4.0. Can do a swap, but you will lose 3/4 of the car. I'd say Ford kept this away from jag design minus the engine and chassis.
