K&N Valve Cover Breather Mod

Lol @ you for thinking my VCG's went out when i capped it.

i drove like that for 2 years. car has 120k miles on it and goes to the track quite a bit. Do you honestly think that it being capped had that big of an impact on my VCG's? if it did it took forever for it to show!

And also...the great things about forums is this sterotypical example.

Guy with what seems like the most knowledge on the board says something, and all the little people follow. befor this post i bet none of you knew any different.

Im not calling Quik LS stupid in any way. Im just saying i love how one person says something and automatically all the other people knew that and has to throw in there 2 cents.

But now you can go ahead with your comebacks saying you knew it was bad to do. but for some reason everyone but quik failed to mention that it was a bad idea in the beginning of this thread.

basically, theres no use in arguing about this subject anymore. The part on my valve cover broke that the hose attached to, and this is my fix. its a 2000 lincoln LS worth 3 grand....who the hell cares!

QuickLS is 100% spot on...
valve cover breathers on an EFI motor are a terribly bad idea.

yea i capped it off. at both the intake and the valve cover. i dont see what its gonna hurt!

the valve cover PCV system also decreases the amount of pressure in the crankcase caused by the pistons going up and down.

By hooking the crankcase to the intake system it helps decrease that turbulent pressure.

This could be the exact reason you had to replace your valve cover gaskets

You should bore out your cylinders next weekend. Just take that K&N breather off, pour some sand in, put the breather back on and start 'er up. If it doesn't work, it's only a three thousand dollar car. Who cares!

Not all of us know as much as quick about the LS but some of us do tend to use common sense which should have been enough!

A small point here...

The pistons going up and down don't cause any pressure changes in the crankcase (some turbulence yes). This is because anytime one piston is coming down, another is going up by exactly the same amount.
Pressure in the crankcase comes from blow-by from the piston rings. The older an engine gets, the more blow-by it will have. This blow-by is usually fuel and combustion-product rich. Neither are good things to have in the crankcase. This is another reason why it is really dumb to eliminate the ventilation system that was engineered in.
