Any leaks under where the car has been parked and when bought, did it drive good then? Have you checked the fluid level after it has warmed up? What year is the car?
Might try replacing the MLPS switch on the side of the trans. If that don't work, it's something internal, such as a solenoid because if it drove fine when parked, I can't see the forward clutches going bad from just setting there. I would start with the MLPS because it may not be telling the trans that it is in drive and the part doesn't cost much and is extremely easy to swap out from under the car.
This is a 98 trans that I J-Modded but the MLPS is only held on by two bolts, 8mm or 10 I believe. Not hard to swap at all.
Could be one of these solenoids has went bad. I forgot which one of these two determine it's forward motion but I think the one with the two silver boxes (shift solenoid) and the round one is the pressure solenoid, I think. It's also easy to change but does require a pan drop and average cost is $35 to $55
