jumping speedo!!!

98 CE going 60mph speedo jumps wildly already replaced speed sensor and still no improvements. Any suggestions?
 
Replace the cluster. I have a cherry one if interested.
 
It's not Elliot's car. I have eight clusters. When we called the guy to let him know about Bills suggestion, he said he doesn't want to do it because the mileage would not be correct. I told him to live with the jumpin speedo then.
 
Not if its a second gen. The mileage is stored in the computer, not the cluster.

lmfao how much money would you like to bet me that you couldnt be any more wrong sunshine. i havent heard that in years, suprised someone still thinks that. i'll bet you $100,000 right now
 
the 2nd gen clusters store the miles inside the cluster, not the computer, my 97 has around 170k on it, and the cluster i put in the car to get rid of my factory cluster with white gauges, has 97k on it, and it is out of a 98 mark that had 92 k when i removed it, it now shows 97k in my car, the miles are in the cluster not the computer. whatever a cluster has on it, will show true in any 2nd gen you put it in, the miles being stored in the computer is a myth that i proved wrong many moons ago!
 
I have almost 175k, I want your white face cluster dude, I'd like it on my car. If I found one though, I'd like a low mile cluster for if I ever try to sell... lol

I believed ya the first time. Douche.
 
I've never seen the back of a mark cluster but it might be possible to switch out the doohicky that stores the mileage and swap it to a working cluster.
 
What about use one thats close to the correct miles? If you have 8 then one must be close. Pretty sure mine has 137 or 138k on it.

I have them ranging from 16k,57k,77k,83k. The only one I have over 100k reads 257k!!! This guy is picky! It has to represent the exact mileage. We offered to swap it out to make sure it would solve his problem before selling it. He's not interested.
 
well rich tell him to fix his own :q:q:q:qing problem then, tell him to take a ride over to lincoln and get his anal canal ripped open.
 
That still won't fix the problem. It would just create a new one! lol! Besides, my other neighbor with the ivory LSC brought his to Lincoln because all the gauges were going on and off. They told him the cluster was no longer available. If they could find a used one it would be around $2000! Then they told him they would give him a big trade in allowance on a new Lincoln. It's garage kept from day 1 with 57k on it. Depressed, he drove it home. I replaced the loose fuse in the box and it is perfect again.

This is possible, but it's probably easier to swap a properly working needle actuator onto his current cluster PCB - if the actuator is the problem, could be a bad solder joint, connection, or something with the PCB itself.
