Well, many of you may know about the VLCM problem I've been having with my 96 MKVIII. I bought the vehicle from a lady, who had it in a local repair shop for 2-1/2 months. They changed the vlcm twice, but couldn't figure out the problem. Instead of giving up, they rigged the fuel pump and a/c to work.
I purchased the vehicle in Oct. 2005. I spent the next 2-1/2 yrs (on and off), trying to figure out what the problem was. I checked the vehicle harness nine ways from sunday, to no avail. Then, recently I read a post on here about someone looking for an earlier vcrm. One thing led to another, and I found out that 96 was an only year box. I confirmed this with Maxx at 5 star. He emailed me the 95/96/97 pinouts, and I compared them. The whole system changed from 95 to 96.
In talking with him, we noticed that the previous p/n box was listed at being effective for 94-96. In fact, it is only effective for 93-95. I thought this was only a mistake on fords part, but in my salvage search for the correct box, I noticed that all of the salvage yard websites also list the previous p/n box as being effective for 94-96.
I received a box yesterday, from a place in Iowa. I installed it tonight, after repairing some wiring. Car started right up. I charged the a/c with enough refrigerent to activate the compressor, and both it and the cooling fan worked at advertised. Took a little spin around the block, and a/c is putting out 45deg air.
Now, I can start working on a few other items I've been meaning to address. Such as the trans and driveshaft. NOt to mention a complete paint job, after I find some LSC bumpers and trim. Just to be on the safe side, I purchased another unit from a member of LOL. NOw I'll have a spare incase this one decides to fail.
Oh;incase anyone on this board, or if you know someone who isn't on the board and has a 1996 Lincoln MKVIII, the correct p/n for the VLCM is F6LF-14B239-BC. It has been obsolete from ford for just over 4yrs now. What else is new right? This is the only p/n that will work for the 96 model year. If you need to get one from a salvage yard, make sure you ask if it has this p/n. The label is a white backround with a purple border and lettering.
