Hey,

I was reading up on the air intakes. I wanted to make my LS sound better and perform a little better. I saw that Lskoncepts has two types of intakes. The Lincoln LS K&N Typhoon Air Intake System ($249) and the Lincoln LS KKM True-Rev Sport Induction Intake Kit ($134). Both put out between 10 -15hp. I just wanted to know if anyone bought one of these from LSKoncepts? And is there really a difference in performace between the two since the price is way more for the K&N system vs. the KKM? Thanks
 
KKM just replaces the air box; the K&N is the whole intake. If you are spending the money, you might as well get the K&N and get the most out of the purchase.
 
I have the CAI tube with a cone filter. I noticed a difference the second I started the car. It sounded better. There was a difference in acceleration.
 
I agree if you are going to spend the money I would go with the K&N. Its a very clean install with the included heat shield. As far as HP goes my guess is only a small advantage to the K&N.

LSK is a good place to do business and I have bought mult. items from them. You can also search on eBay/etc. where I picked up a used one for a steal.
 
ok. I was thinking if they were both close, then i was going to buy the KKM and then put the other $100 towards LED lights for interior lighting and maybe more exterior.

You can find the K&N cheaper than $250.

Go with the K&N. It is well worth whatever price premium over the KKM. The KKM is basically just a cone add-on filter. The K&N is the entire intake system.
 
I have the KKM and it will give you the same sound as the K&N but it doesnt include a heatshroud or smoothed tubing.

It will soak up some heat from the engine but either of the two are better than stock.
 
My Experience

When I installed the full-length KKM intake system on my '02 Sport V8, I was immediately very pleased with the improvement in the sound of the car. It sounded faster. And then I put on a cat-back Magnaflow exhaust system and one more time was impressed by the improvement in the sound.

However, this was accomplished during the first several visits to Maxton to race there on the one-mile Land Speed track. AND THE TOP SPEED ACHIEVED WITH THESE MODIFICATIONS WAS VIRTUALLY THE SAME AS WHEN EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD WAS IN FACTORY FORM. There was, therefore, no horsepower/torque improvement AT ALL.

A mild dose of spray enabled the setting of a record in E/F SS. Then I switched from running gasoline with the spray, by having a five-gallon fuel cell and complete dedicated fuel delivery system in the trunk to go with the spray. With methanol in the cell and proper jetting in the spray head, I set three more records in E/F CC.

I think it likely that both the exhaust upgrade and the intake duct improvements did good when running with the methanol and nitrous oxide. But there was no improvement with an otherwise bone-stock powertrain.

ya maybe a tune with just these two bolt-ons would provide better results?

Correct me if im wrong here but as far as i know the top speed is not determined by horsepower in anyway.

Intake, tune, and exhaust do increase horsepower....you can look at several dyno graphs and the increases at different rpms. You will get to the top speed slighty faster but it will still remain the same top speed.

spray is a different beast.

Only as far as horsepower needs to overcome drag. I'm sure there are many cars with fewer horses than the LS that have the same or higher top speed.
 
Performance improvements from these intake systems is marginal. It's mostly going to be in your head. Exhaust systems do not necessarily add much power to the Gen II, either. Neither of these are choke points for these cars in stock form.
Now, I have an '02 and added the polished tube and cone filter and consider it a good buy. You get much more engine noise (much like flipping the air cleaner lid upside down on your old muscle car), but not necessarily any performance change. Going to a washable cone filter should also filter better, assuming you properly maintain it.
 
You can make your own CAI for 40.00 if you get a universal cone filter from Autozone and cut down the airbox.
Mine sounds real sweet.

I have to disagree. Two stock Gen2s pretty much dead even. Stock vs K&N kit, the car with the cai will walk it every time.
 
ok. this is good to know....so def do it, but go with the K&N is what you guys are saying. which I think i will do cause i want it to sound better.

I dont think there is a sound difference between the two...but the K&N is a true cold air intake vs the KKM being a short ram air intake.

Both will give that throaty sound but the K&N also includes a smoothed flat black or polished tube and slightly better performance and looks.
 
You asked me to correct you so I will. I'll use the general term 'power' though, because it's actually torque that moves the car. ADDING POWER WILL MAKE THE CAR GO FASTER. 'Horsepower' is a numerical figure derived from measured torque. Trivially, at 5252 RPM Torque in foot-pounds and horsepower are mathematically the same.

Yes it will make the car go faster.

But unless you change out the gears you will still top out at the same speed. You will get to the top speed quicker but its still the same speed.

In street racing more power wins the race since you are traveling a short distance.
 
Half of the performance is in the sweet sound.
Without a CAI the LS is so quiet it almost sounds like an electric car.
 
Well glasspacks are basically just pipes.

You should have got actual mufflers. The car was still to quiet for me with only intake. maganflows really opened up the sound....it does drone a bit but i like hearing those 8 cylinders firing.

Now when I let my sc 12 second Camaro rip.....
