Is the First Gen Boost Friendly???

Wondering what is needed to make the GEN I Take some boost with it's stock Intake and B Heads...Planning to just port and polish the Intake and Heads and change the Cams, Valve Springs, Rods, Rings, Pistons, etc. and add 2 hair dryers to atleast make 12-15lbs of boost and call it a day w/ tranny mods and bigger gears...i want it to be a street car for daily commute to clown ricers on the way to work and home so i'm not looking for alot of boost
 
Don't need anywhere near that kind of boost for what your looking for and just wait till you get to see the prices on cams if you try to switch em ;)
 
You are very ambitious. That about a $10k build for the things your talking about. Its almost more cost effective to buy a built 96-98 cobra and pull the motor trans etc.
 
If your gonna boost one..
I'd save the money from the cams, pistons, port and polish.. and just boost it.

This way you dont waste alot of money popping the first motor..and... "you will".

Then on the second motor I'd work on getting a stock engine to "LIVE"...
Then after you find the limit the second time... THEN work on the megabuck cams pistons etc.

Then you really need to consider the tune... who is gonna do it?
Tuning the EEC iv car is going to be a pita due to no datalogging solution.

If I were gonna boost a first gen.. I'd do a 96..just because it has a more robust PCM set up and has a readily available datalogging solution.

You can get pull out donor engines for just about what a gasket set and head bolts are gonna cost you.
 
Leave the cams and heads alone,if you won't to be safe at higher RPM's just get 96-98 heads , you can find them for next to nothing lately.Invest your money into forged bottom end.It isn't your average 4 cylinder Honda engine ,12-15 psi is pretty decent amount of boost and will put this engine around 500 rwhp.
 
so with a 96-98 head and intake swap and forged bottom end it would be ok?....what about tuning???...Can i swap the PCM set up and can I stay with the 1st Gen Ignition Coils?
 
Forged short block with stock "C" heads from a Marauder or Mach1 will get you into a KB Twin Screw. No need for fancy pants cams or fancy head work. It's been done before and it works. That will leave you with the rest of the drive train to update as well.

Hell, I know of a stock-block'd Mach1 with a single turbo running 9psi and it's pushing over 470rwhp...
 
I would just buy a terminator motor if I wanted to get boosted... the initial purchase price may seem huge, but when you add everything up it begins to look like a really good deal.

Honestly, the Mach motor is just as good as the Termi's. Just the rod's arn't as tough as the termi.

Bottom line is, the Mach motor can handle around 500rwhp. The Termi can push 600rwhp on the factory motor. But who really pushes how far a stock motor will go? :) If you know your going to make big power, swap out the weak parts.
 
When I say terminator I mean factory motor form the supercharger to the oil pan... just bolt it in and enjoy.
 
We just had a Terminator in my one shop. I still couldn't believe he paid $8000 for it!!

Looks like it had rolled over some and only the motor was still good so they took the motor out and some of interior too...anyways, How much had the 1st gen motor handled?...Has anyone ever risked the 1st gen's motor to find out?

My guess would ask Lincoln Motorsport..
 
In any boosted gen1 application, you have to be careful of the freeze plugs in the bottom of the intake. I've seen a few Gen1 intakes blow out under boost.

Nothing that can't be fixed tho.

Cams are different. But then youre spending too much on a stock cast motor. And 93-95or94 did not come beehive valve springs. Keep your eyes open for wrecked cobras. They go pretty cheap. I found some on copart.com a while back and they went for around 5k give or take.
