I bought my LS new. I Have had what I consider to be all of the nuicance problems with window regulators and leaky headlights, broken door regulators, expensive replacement of hydraulic fan motor, chrome peeling off the wheels after 2 ohio winters etc. I can live with this.

I can even live with the fact that I had a valve train timing chain break at engine start at 76,000 miles. I replaced that engine with a factory crate motor. Believe it or not the replacement motor has now failed after a year and a half for the same reason. Failed tensioner caused the chain to bind and come off trashing the valve train.

I'm sorry but this should never happen. These engines should be good 2-300K miles without these kinds of problems.

I have had this car dealer serviced throughout its life. No missed oil changes or required maintenance. Lincoln has refused the opportunity to help with any of these repairs. I'm I the only lucky owner out there?

I have a 02 that I got in 05 with 30k miles I now have 157K. The only major problem was a trans replacement.

The crate motor was an Ebay buy, Full dressed complete new motor. $1500 versus the $8000 that Lincoln wanted for a rebuild. Thankfully I went the ebay route and did the install myself because the Lincoln 8,000 repair would have only had a 1yr warranty. I'm past that.

I think that the 1980 or so Continental would rank as worse than the LS by far.

maybe you beat on the car?
maybe you don't beat on the car?

to simply replace the first engine because of a broken timing chain seems a bit excessive, just my opinion.

move on, get something else to whine about!!

I have the exact vehicle and recently hit 200k.
You are right about many things you mentioned... you forgot the lug nuts :)

I know a guy that works for Ford dealership and he says that the guys at the shop call the LS "Lower Standards"... I thought that was pretty funny.

But i love my car regardless... dont think it's the worst... but agree it could have been better.

Can't be the V8 it's the V6

Love my 01V6 but after replacing the transmission and Hydraulic pump along with everything else, it really is the highest most expensive vehicle I've ever owned. And I drive like a little old woman on Sunday. I've written to Ford many times about this vehicle, even their own engineers know of the many problems. After you replace all the defective parts with the newly designed stuff, it seems to hold together pretty well. 116k miles.

Maybe you just got one from a bad batch. A few hava 150k+ on it and have had only minor problems so far. I think the guy with 250k on his has had a great run with it too with not that many problems

I've heard of the timing chain breaking but it seems to be a rare problem. No mention of bad coils or valve cover gaskets so at least you have that going for you. My V6 is not too fast but it's been reliable.

i have 2 LS's a 01 and 04. the 01 has 220k miles on it, i just replaced the intake manifold and did the coils, the intake blew cuz i was doing 90 and one of my cats completely shut down, i just replaced both my cats with new ones for a whopping 500 with labor and brand new cats and its running good again i am getting a check engine lighe but that is because i didnt replace my sensors so i have to drive it for a while for it to go away. other than that the car has been good so far. on the 04 i have 114k and that one i got it brand spanking new and i blew the rear diff but thets the only issue i had on it soo far.

So.. Was that engine a crate engine from ford or... Because if it was from the...part, who knows how they build engines.. They may take all the parts and clean them up. New pistons, bearings, gaskets, etc., but everything else they just clean up.. The eBay seller didn't give you any type of warranty?
