I was just curious which balljoint on these cars is more common to fail? I have seen maybe 3 in the junkyards that appear that the passenger side separated. Most stuff on the passenger side usually fails earlier because it is in the road dirt on the shoulder of the road, and the road is usually rougher on the shoulder...

I ask this because I have replaced my PS ball joint with a moog, but my driver side is still junk OE brand. It still has a good boot and doesn't make any noise, but I will likely be driving a lot to and from florida in the next few months and really don't want that thing to fail...

Thoughts?

Replace both I had a drivers side fail and was not making noise at 75mph in March I think. You also need a flat bed to get her home.

Not gonna argue your point, but I'm doubtful that the shoulder of the road has much to do with the PS side failing more frequently...

As a tech, like mentioned above, replace both, they have the same age, same miles...unless you've already done flip flop R/Rs

Curb side 2 to 1 always first one to go...wheel bearing, upper bj, lower bj, tierods. If you don't know how to park then your car can get pretty messed up.

The ball joint is maybe 5 years old? I guess that is pretty old for any component, I guess I'll look into replacing it too... Just that and sway bar links and pretty much everything is new.

All I can say is my 5 month old UCAs have a crack in the ball joint boot on the passenger side but not the drivers. IDK why but it is what it is. I will replace both of them with TRW parts in the near future though. I have warranty at SCP for them but in order for him to honor it I have to pull the UCA, pay to ship it to him, let him decide if he wants to replace it, pay him to ship me a new one then slap it in. Bill at SCP can kiss my ass. He swore up and down how much better his are then EVERYONE elses and how much better his warranty is blah blah blah and I believed him. First sign of trouble and he acts like a bitch. Same thing with my new tie rods from him. 3000 miles and the boots split apart? WTF? His response? "You should buy my better polly ones for $10 plus shipping." WTF!?! Don't even want to send warranty replacement ones but he wants me to pay him $17 (after shipping) for the same damn boots I can get at Autozone for $4?
I will NEVER buy anything from SCP again.

Ya, I have TRW UCAs that were installed at the same time the lowers were. The boot on the passenger LBJ split a long time ago, the upper boot looks like new.

Ha just did my passanger upper ball joint took me 20mins :) would of been faster had that damn a/c not been in the way.

When you get ready for sway links...TRW...UCA and LCA...TRW...
Any questions?
