So, is it possible to switch out the mk8 upper intake to a cobra intake easily, and if so ...would i want to?

the heads don't match up correctly so you'll need a either cobra heads or an adapter. You have a Gen1 though so your intake flows well already. I wouldn't think of doing it unless you really want to mod the car but in that case you'll probably just go with some aftermarket intake.

I thought you were considering selling your car??? Change of mind?

I absolute LOVE the car, everyone in my family is jelous of it, but its not an old muscle car or a big block. Im looking for somthing a little more "loud" (its "personality" that is), and somthing that would be easier to learn how to do work myself on without worrying that im going to break a big bling bling $$ part. (second gen trans am :) ) I would keep the mark, which i may actually do if i can figgure out a way to...but i just cant realy say that i can afford the trans am. so i am planning to sell it, and take what i have now and buy a daily driver truck, and the project t/a. anyways...long story short, i want it...but i dont think i can keep it. (though i am always looking for stuff to do the car in the case that i can keep her, or eventually get another)

it'll turn into an old muscle car and is faster than most big blocks! Its easy to work on, don't be afraid, it'll only bite when you floor it!:Beer

yeah, my right foot does have a fiew teeth MKS on it

I'm sorry, I have to disagree.A 96-98 cobra intake will bolt up with very few issues.
All you will have to do is block off the EGR and use a cobra throttle cable.
Plenty of people have switched to a cobra manifold. Most people that have done the switch have done it specifically to run a supercharger designed for the cobra. It makes the supercharging easier.

yeah, thats why i was wondering, but if i cant get atleast a 2:1 in favor of it, i think that it will just have to wait till i can figgure this out for myself

Well you need to figure out what YOUR goals are with the car.

If you want to keep it N/A then I would take the factory manifold off and have someone cut it apart and port it.

If you plan on going the Supercharged route then I say go with the Cobra manifold.

If you want to make a LOT of power with a supercharger then I say cut apart a cobra manifold and shorten the runners.

If you need any help feel free to ask.

Chris, I thought the ports were different between the Mark VIII intake and the Cobra intake?

They are slightly, but when you purchase a cobra intake you should also get the IMRC plates as well.....at least that is my take on it.

In terms that my retarted self can understand please

NO, they are the same. All the IMRC deletes do is replace the factory Intake Manifold Runner controls.

For the newbies, there are two ports into the head. One round and one squareISH.
There is a butterfly valve the closes over the round one under 3350 RPM
Over that it opens up for high end power. It was Fords band aid to help create torque down low.
They made a delete plate that gets rid of the butterflies. It hurts down low torque a bit but creates more top end power.

EWWW EWWW EWWW EWWW I can not have less low torque, thats realy what i want, i NEED somthing that has 500 lb ft at under 3000

has any one ever modi. a mk8 intake and what gain could be seen from mod a mk8 intake. by the look of the intake seem you should see the same gain from a mk8 intake. :Beer

As far as I know, Joe and I are the only ones that have done it.
I never tested mine I just sent it out to Strapp and he never got the engine running.
Joe tested his and it gained a little power but it sent the A/F WAY rich for some reason.I cant quite figure out why it went rich but if he had a way to lean it out a bit I figure it would have been good for close to 30 HP at the wheels.
Cause even though it was about 10.5 A/F it STILL made aboout 5-10 HP if memory serves me.

30 is fantastic, how much did it cost to get that done? and who did it for you, or did you do it

I did it myself.
I cut off the bottom of the intake so as to get to the "Mouths" of the runners and radiused them all and ported as far into them as I could get.All in all smoothing out the entire intake path.
Then I weld it all back together.

do you think you could put it in a little more depth for a non mechanic to understand, and perhaps help do for himself?

You would need a lot of specialty tools to do this.
I used a big stand up band saw to cut it apart
then you need a high quality rotary tool to port with ( NOT a Dremel, or one of the many copy cats) With a few different bits
And last but not least you need a TIG welder and the ability to use it.

Or you could get an SSR intake in which he pretty much does the same thing. He charges $700 for it I beleive.

Right, but I'm talking about doing it to a Mark manifold which makes more torque than the SSR or the stock cobra.

Your right also Chris. I would just do my own deletes. Doing my own right now as a trial. Liek you said, maybe do some port/gasket matching. I would still run a power adder. Cheapest way to make decent power with this car. Just keep the boost reasonable or say bye-bye to the ring lands and the hyper pistons.I just can't stand where they put the throttle body on the 1st gen intake.

someone please tell me how to go about getting this done.
