Does anyone know what the runners on a stock Gen 2 intake flow? I just bought a new intake plenum elbow (part # 3W4Z9A589AB Gen2) to port out and experiment with a BBK 75mm throttle body. I did some comparative research and discovered that a stock elbow in a Mustang 4.6 is pretty restrictive and Trick Flow offers an elbow that freed up 9 hp while still using the stock TB. I figure that if a stock LS intake flows well enough that a ported out inlet tube and a slightly larger TB will make this engine breathe a little easier if the inlet tube is truly a restrictive part of the engine. I searched this sight and haven't found where anyone else had done this so I figured I would give it a try and report my findings to you. Please feel free to chime in with your thoughts.

The replacement I bought is same stock elbow that is on it now. All I want to do is see how much I can port it out. If I can port it out enough to where a 75mm TB can bolt right up, I'm curious to see how much HP it could make with a good tune. I am thinking 15-20 hp over stock. If it doesn't work out so well, I still have the stock part I just took off and I can just put it back on.

Youll pick up maybe 5hp, no way youll get 15-20 of a throttle body and elbow

If it's possible in a Mustang I don't see why it couldn't be possible in the LS. Larger TB plus a larger intake tube plus a tune I think you could hit 15 hp more. Why don't you think it's possible??

watch your torque - one of the issues is that the smaller engine is very sensitive to a reduction in flow speed - just results in a loss of torque. So by making the intake less restrictive - it will flow more but at less speed, and could result in loss of torque.

So do you think that a 75mm TB would be to big for the 3.9? Is it pretty much maximized the way it is besides adding forced induction?

don't know - Revolutionaryconcepts simply ported a stock TB and lost some torque. the 3.9 is like most modern engine and restricted on the intake sided, I just never worked with the intake much before the SC project.

Well I guess we can't learn if we don't try and I'm up for being a guinea pig. I'll probably end up getting it dyno'd to set a baseline and then swap for the new TB and tube and see what happens. I can always go back to stock if it doesn't work :)
