installing lights in Gen 2 lid-mounted tails

I haven't heard of it being done. If you do it post pics, it might sway me to convert the rear of my gen 1.

might not look the best, unless you were going to add a reflective housing also....

Those pieces have no volume. It is about as thick as the lense and plastic backing. I agree without a reflective case it could look like garbage. You could go with LEDs to limit needed space, but we all know how unfriendly our lenses are for making LED patterns look good.

I am thinking of doing some expiriments with custom tails next year. But dont have high hopes.

+1... if you went with led strips, you would have to do all the lights the same (aesthetically you would anyway)

Just like thread says.. has anyone tried this?

..or will I be the first?
and yes, I searched!!

what did you have in mind

jollinc01 there will definitely be a thread if this gets off the ground. I actually like the looks of your big gen1 tails!

G-RELL the current plan involves using 3 led panels attached to a sequencial module. I will fab them up using my old tails and, if it looks good, install in my tinted LSE tails

If anyone has seen or heard of this being tried, or if you have an idea about using our inner tail lights, OR setting up sequential or chase lights on an LS..please post them here!

Like Andrizzle said, those lights have no space on the inside. You would have to cut the back out and make a perfect square or else you would be able to tell they were cut.

That is one option, fitting a housing onto the back of the lens. It would also require modifying the the trunk lid, which sits flush behind the inner tails.

Option 2 might be using the space beside the lens to fit a light which shines into the reflector from the side.
