Since I bought my car the buttons were never responsive and I had to push them a million times before one would respond. Today I finally decided to open it up and look into it further and see if I could get them working properly and I did! First thing was to pop the panel up and pull it out. After it was out and upside down I was able to separate the top and bottom with a small screw driver as seem here: (8 slots)

After it was apart I had to use the same small screw driver to take out the light bulb and now in 2 pieces

Next comes one of my favorite tools, circuit board/contact cleaner:

I sprayed each button and pushed them a few times and repeated for each button 4 times and now we are all working first time I press them. So much better and pretty easy to do. I hope this helps some of you.

neat. i may do this since my interior is strewn about my garage and it would be easy to do.

Nice work. I have this problem with my green car, I never got around to checking it out yet.

That is good info to know. I always just had others sitting around, so I would just swap them out. But one of these days we're going to have to start repairing things instead of replacing.

How in the world do you have extras?! Every time I go to the bone yard these are the first things yanked. Thats why I had to search for a fix. Glad I did, it was much cheaper and pretty easy to do. However, one of my buttons started to act up again so I will be hitting it again soon.

Now that you mention it... none of the words below my buttons like "fuel" "reset" "economy" light up. Are these supposed to light up? I always assumed so otherwise how to do you see what function you're summoning at night? Do I have one light out or multiple lights out?

Yes they do and it is one bulb, same one that has to come off to separate the board of buttons.

I have several parts cars, and lots of extra parts sitting around.

I had to do this same exact thing days after I bought my 94 back in 2012.

It turned out that someone had spilled an entire coffee all over the info center and buttons, and it got back behind the ac unit and stereo - what a mess. No wonder the stereo never worked when I got the car. Someone had the idea to put velcro on that area of the dash, with a matching velcro piece for their coffee mug, and you get the idea. I dont know why the **** they didnt just use the cup holder?!?

I used electronic contact cleaner and a fine bristle toothbrush since the coffee was real gunked in there. Installed a few aftermarket ultra bright leds for the "idiot lights" and then added a little bit of dielectric grease before reassembly, and it was working good as new after!
