Got stuck at the gas station for about 20 min today, this is probably the 5 or 6th time its happened over the last year or so. anyways, put the key in, turn'd the key to start car and does not engage the starter. all the accy's come on but the car doest start. usually when it happens ill tap the key on the metal or pull in in and out a few times and it will start but not today, this was the losgest ive been stranded. anyone have any ideas???

It could be a problem with your PATS. Try putting the key in, turn it on for 30 seconds, turn it off, take the key out, and try starting it. I believe that's the relearn process.

Yes, that sounds like a PATS issue. What does the LED on the top of the dash do when this happens? Do you have any other PATS (or RF) keys on your key ring?

I've had the same problem twice now in two years.

If you have command start, try starting the car using that (from inside the car). It has always worked for me, and then after that the problem goes away.

anyone have a fix for this issue? I was stuck for 30 minutes yesterday, decided to cal AAA and 2 minuntes into the call she decided to start. same issue as described, full accessorries, lights bright and when it decides to start the battery and starter turn fast. Yesterday my passenger regulator quit, my Vavle Cover gaskets, COPs and plugs need to be replaced and I recently replaced my transmission @ $2500...My LS is falling apart...:(

what does your PATS light do when the key is being turned? if it is blinking, then there's your problem, the security system is keeping your car from starting, you could have a bad key or a problem with your PATS system (yes i know thats a little redundant)

just went out and checked and it started right away the first couple times, then I got it to fail, the red light on the dash did not flash. this is freaking weird. I'm gonna use my spare key later and see if that helps but in the mean time I'm confused as hell?!?!

Would a faulty/failing ignition switch be a possible culprit?

Yes, along with several electrical connections, a few relays, and some electronic modules.

ignition switch

that really sounds like the ignition switch. hey all those other repairs are easy fixes, just do it and you're good for another 100k miles. where did you get a $2500 tranny, mine was $3500!

Larrys transmissions in Corona CA - came with a 3yr/36Kmile warrantee, too. they came well recommended by a couple drag racing buddies of mine.

when you say the Ignition switch; do you mean the actual barrel switch the key goes into?
