When my 98 deacclerates with no foot on gas or break, the idle "hunts" or jumps up and down a bit once the torque converter locks up. If I tap the gas or hit the break it stops doing that. At first I thought it was a small vacuum leak where the mass air housing enters the intake tube but I just put in the proper adapter and everything is now airtight and it still does the same thing. I'm thinking it's either the torque converter clutch solenoid or the EGR?

you might be misfiring! when was the last time you changed your plugs? if you did change them out recently, then i would suspect the torque converter as the possible culprit.

plugs are new... i also noticed that my car has the same mods as yours except for the COP kit... maybe the sct has something to do wiht it... i never noticed it until i did the chip

Well, ok... :) No, its sealed/non-sevicable and a total pain to replace. You have to remove the throttle body, which is not so hard to do, to make it easier. The hard part can be the screws holding the sensor on. They can, and usually are, torqued VERY tight! I dont have a pic, but its on the back of the TB covered in a rubber cover - at least there is a cover on it with a Gen 1.

For me the problem was my SCT chip torque converter lockup schedule was making the TCC solenoid geek out. Took out the chip and no more issues.

hmmm... since i do not have a chip. could it possibly be my TCC solenoid, or should i just get a reflash of my stock pcm?

This is a very similar problem that I am having except it this leads to worse problems for me. I just got my SCT chip installed it and had it running great. Three days later the thing started doing what you guys described and I thought nothing of it. Now everytime it does this it leads to bigger problems. About five min. after it starts this I get error codes on the computer and I lose my tach. When i pull the chip out its fine. Im about to the point where im just gonna sell the chip and try something else.

You are probably still having connection problems. Are you using tape also, a lot of time this can cause more problems than help.

Yeah, I'm using tape. But this last time I shimmed it so that the chip was square and all the way in before I put the tape on that way the tape couldnt cause the connection issues and when i did that it was running fine untill tonight and I did this on tuesday

I am going to replace the TCC solenoid very soon, possibly next weekend. So I can plan a backup in case this does not resolve my issue. What else could cause this? vacuum leak or maybe a bad EGR?

It could be any of those things, at first I thought my problem was a vacuum leak, and then I replaced the IAC and nothing changed. It could possible be the EGR valve as well.

I think my problem is resolved. I was actually thinking about changing my battery yesterday, so I popped open the hood and found corrosion on the positive battery terminal. I went ahead and bought a yellow top optima to replace this dura-crap. After changing the battery I noticed that the issue w/ the idle hunting was gone. I guess having the battery not connected cleared any codes, after driving to and from work today all is well. :)
