I blowdid somethin up.. I ripped through 1st and 2nd twice on the way home from work and noticed what sounded like an exhaust leak. I pulled over and revved it up next to a wall and it was very noticable at around 1900 after that the exhaust loudens up. I got underneath it and tried recreating the sound with a rubber malet checking heat shields etc. I hit the cats a few times with a ball peen to rule them out as a possible vibration. Started the car and still noise. You cannot hear the noise from the engine compartment. Only underneath the car and next to buildings. My thought as of right now is I either blew a manifold gasket OR I somehow developed a rod knock. No oil consumption although it does leak from the rusted out pan. I'd say it was half quart low. Any suggestions?
 
Put in that $500 dollar oil pan haha. Nah, seriously you could have done the same thing I did. I think I blew my egr tube, I have a nasty exhaust sound and its not too bad from in the cabin. Mine sounds like crap too, but I also lost like 90% of power so maybe not.

I did pick up 2 new 2.5" cats though, and an egr tube/egr valve among other things.

stfu. Good luck finding one yourself. (FOR FREE AND BRAND NEW) There is absolutely NO power loss what so ever. And with almost any engine damage im sure it would have been effected enough for me to notice.
 
EGR tube sounds like a good place to start looking.
PITA to change though.... But probably understress, soft engine mounts, the engine turned a bit and the accordian style, flexing EGR tube might have finally cracked on the old car. Mine did, that why I know how miserable it was to fix.
 
if it was internal damage you would hear it in the engine compartment so I think your fine there
 
i'm also going with egr tube, probably blew one of the seams in the flex section, or you blew one of the rubber hoses off the egr tube that go to the pdfe module.
 
EGR tube or maybe valve body buzz, although I know that only happened in the 95s mostly, but ya never know.
 
Thanks a ton guys... I blew the sh1t out of that egr tube lol. If anybody has one locally I want to get this done this weekend.
 
I had to get mine through the ford dealer. If I remember correctly it was around $120 bucks or so. Poor design if you ask me.

Now I realize why everyone jumped all over you in your previous threads. Just took a shot in the dark at the egr tube.

Lighten up a bit, I was joking.

Calabrio, how bad was it exactly? Anything we can do to make it a little easier?
 
I completely eliminated this poor design... I broke the rear bolt holding the egr valve onto the intake manifold so I made a small piece to fit inside the opening for the egr tube, put some aluminum heat resistant epoxy in there put the piece in and apoxied over the piece. Then I could'nt get the lower fitting out of the cat so I said F it and just welded each of the little holes to seal properly. I didnt want to waste time buying a new one when im getting headers anyway and planned on doing away with egr. Nice and quiet now. But, I took the entire cowl panel and hood off just for easier access.

Technically if it came about I would get payed for replacing one. BUT, I would heat the living sh1t out of them. Was a fun day.. got to pick a million leaves out from my cowl panel.... Almost got pulled over test driving with no hood on. Everything goes back on tomorrow morning. Then rockers and a possible for sale sign... gen2 time!:D Then every single thing I did to this one is going to be redone... but will be 20x easier.
 
If it were me I would heat and douse the fittings in penetrating lube about a week ahead of touching a wrench to the car...
 
Mine came loose without any heat or oil, No rust! The whole removing the cowl sucked big time though. I almost smashed the damn thing. Dumbest thing ever!
 
Did it twice. PITA the 1st time. Piece of cake the 2nd.

Just don't put the lower fitting on tight and it won't be a fight to the death to remove later. Heat and time will make it sorta tighten itself.

or Michigan and Minnesota.... Have you ever seen rust :)
 
Before I buy one from Max I wanna rule out that this is the problem. I guess I'll have to get down to it tomorrow and Tuesday. I hope I don't have to take off the hood though!

Start the car COLD. Put your hand near the egr pipe and feel to see if air is blowing out of the accordian flex piece... You WILL feel a noticable amount of air moving out.
 
You don't have to remove the hood. Just disconnect the gas struts and you can open the hood a lot more, and just prop it up. Just don't open it too much that you will bend the corners.

I've done this a few times, it's a lot easier.

Also, I soaked my fittings down with PB blaster, a lot, before I removed the tube from the cat.
