Here's my problem, getting around to change the oil pan gasket notice the front main seal on the transmission is starting to leak, and I believe the transmission dipstick o-ring is starting to go also. Once that's all fixed it will be a good car, other then bodywork/paint which I will start on soon!

Here's what I'm thinking, just drop the motor and transmission together and fix all the leaks at once in my garage with only jacks and jack stands. Or I could wait about a month or two and I will be getting $1000-1200 to do whatever, would that cover a mechanic's price, I'd buy all the parts. I'd rather do it myself so I can mod my car some.

I have never done anything like this myself, but have helped pull 4 transmissions and put new ones back in, in a 94 Explorer, and once in a v8 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. If I can get his help it would be no problem, sorry for the long winded post but I'm hoping for some kind of advise.

Dropping the motor and trans is not the easiest thing to do. My advice is if you feel that you can tackle this job yourself you are going to need some help. Look at the post on this site and they will list step by step instructions on how to complete your task.

I have searched and read all the threads on how to do it. Laser's photo how to sapperfire and him posted for another guy helped a ton! But I talked to my dad as much as you can and he wants to pull the drive shaft slide the transmission back, do the seal, put it back together then do the oil pan gasket. I told him I need to get it done asap because I might have a job after two years, in about 2 months maybe less but it's almost an hour drive one way.

Sliding the transmission back is real easy to say. I think I would just drop it all down and do it at the same time. If it was done the way your dad wants to do it, how was the oil pan gasket going to be done? That oil pan don't just come off for an easy gasket swap.

I know, I guess once the transmission is done we'd drop the k-member enough to get the pan off. I don't care how it gets done I just need him to help get it done.
