I am in desperate need of a 1996 Mark VIII VRCM. I'm about 99% sure that's the problem with my car at this time. Unfortunately, I'm on a severely limited budget and can't afford $125-$150 bucks like most people are charging for these things. I found a 1993 version on Ebay for $59.99 but it won't fit my car. If anyone knows of a 1996 model for $50 or $60 bucks, I could really use one. I've already speant the car repair budget for this month. So if I can't find a really cheap one, the car will have to sit for another month before I can work on it again. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all the help!!!!

good luck man, you are talking about a part that is so rare thats why you see them for $125 and up, because only a limited amount of mark VIII's were produced in 96 which makes the number of 96 vcrm's even more rare. you are talking about a part thats worth its weight in gold! only a vcrm from 96 will work, start looking at salvage yards online.

I understand that they are rare. But I can't afford that. Nothing I can do about my budget. I work for the State Of NC. Our wonderful governor just cut our pay. I didn't make much to start with. So my budget is even more limited than before. So the car will sit. That sucks because I really liked that car.

well i dont want to sound like a dick but seriously if you are on a budget you own the wrong car. all the mark VIII is, is a money pit, and some of the parts like the vcrm will never be had " cheap " there is no such thing. you cannot own one of these cars if you dont have alot to spend, specially a 96, wait till one of your IMRC Actuators craps out lol OH BOY!!!

Honestly, I've had this car for almost ten years and have had very few problems. I've replaced my front air spring/shocks twice (once with used ones and once with brand new ones about a month ago), put new shocks on the rear, and replaced the alternator. That's about it. Other than regular tune ups. It's been a great car.

Oh yeah, had to replace the fuel pump a couple of years ago. Forgot about that. Found one on Ebay for $30 bucks and installed it myself. Saved a lot of money.

if the problem is "only" the fan, then spend 60-90 dollars on an aftermarket fan controller

But it's not "only" the fan. The a/c compressor runs all the time and won't shut off even when the climate control is off. And the clutch locks up and starts smoking. I am planning to straight wire the fan to a switch and unplug the a/c compressor so I can at least drive the car. Hopefully I can get it fixed eventually.

sounds like the AC compressor is smoked..too, thus the locked up and smoking AC clutch

nothing odd about an OLD car having more than 1 issue.
Dont get confused if they dont seem related.. they may not be.

Um... its really simple. Unplug the AC clutch connector at the compressor. If its still stuck then obviously is physical and not the VRCM commanding it.

Yep. I was planning to do that. But my battery got drained last night. So I'm gonna leave it alone for a little while before I kill it. BTW my radiator arrived today. Hopefully I can get it installed and see what's what later this week.

No, it's not odd. It's just odd in this instance because I've owned this car for almost ten years and my problems have been few and far between. So all this happenning at the same time is pretty frustrating. Especially since I don't have the time or the money to adequately deal with it right now. That's why I'm going to leave it alone for a day or two.

when you get frustrated, give it a day or two....
Charge the battery and recharge your brain cells.
you'll sort it out.

I've been researching the VRCM and as it turns out, all my problems are related to that little box. It controls the a/c compressor clutch, radiator cooling fan, and interior climate control blower motor, among many other things. And right now, my radiator fan doesn't work, my a/c compressor is stuck "on", and my interior fan blower doesn't work. So it appears that I really do desperately need a VRCM. So, until I can find one that I can afford, the old girl will have to sit for a while.

I'd like to pick up one of those too. Luckily for you the link to ebay doesnt work here at my office.
I'll let this one slide but I am on the hunt too.

Jeff

Thaywood. I know you're on a budget, but you picked the wrong car for that situation. The fact that you have a '96 is even worse, the parts for those cars are the rarest of the rare. I feel for you brother. I hope you can work it out and keep the car, because it is a magnificent machine. Good luck to you. Keep the hope alive.

Mark 8 ownership and budget can be hit or miss..

My 95 served me well, with very very few high dollar issues.
