I made a cold air intake...kinda. Help ASAP please

So I bought some alum. tube and ran it from my lower grille up to the area where my K&N intake is. I figured it would work great. But now it seems when I do 60MPH+ and try to hold a steady speed, the car wants to stutter, like it's going to stall out. Is it because too much air is being pushed at the intake? Will the computer adjust to this or what?

Any ideas? I am going to be leaving work in about an hour, I have to make a 40mile drive on the interstate, so I wanna figure this out before I leave. Any help would be great guys. Thanks.

did you cover up the k and n with it? sounds more coincidental than any thing. you may have other issues

No, I left the K&N alone totally. There is a hole, about 3" under where the stock airbox goes. I ran a tube from inside my grille up to that hole. So basiclly, when I'm driving at 30MPH+ it shoots air up through the tube and it's pointed at my air filter.

I'd say the end of the tube is a good 5"+ away from the bottom of the K&N cone. I have pictures, I will post em soon as I get home(if I make it)

Any other ideas guys?

I highly doubt there is too much air getting in there is the tube is 5" away from the filter. I have my filter sitting in my front grill area and air is getting shoved directly into my intake. I would disconnect the battery over night and let the car readjust itself to the new intake setup you have. I have 2 different CAI setups I run, one is 3.5" on is 4". I have to diconnect my battery overnight whenever I change between the two because the car runs poorly when switching between them with the different flow rates.

Tiz a puzzlement! Introducing air into your filter area should not cause a miss, or studder. It sounds like something else is going on. Just "spit balling", but have you checked for anything that might have become unplugged during your install.....is there any chance that water or moisture is getting up your new piece to the filter........bad gas....vacuum line unhooked.........fuel filter? Wish I knew more. Let us know what you find out.

lol, I dont know to any of those questions. When it comes to cars and engines, I'm no better than a female. But whatever, It's time for the interstate ride. If I make it home, I will post pics of what I have done and see what you guys have to say then.

Perhaps you should grab a flashlight and look very carefully on a sunny day....

Also, I have disconnected my battery like everyone said.
If I leave it disconnected for like 3 hours, will that be OK? Instead of "oernight"? Cause when I wake up for work in the morning, I dont feel like screwing with the battery ya know.

I did notice two things.

1. My gas milage seemed to get better, again.

2. You know after you have been driving for a while, or been driving hard. Then you pull up to a stop light or stop sign and the car doesnt idle smooth? Like it has a bit of vibration or whatever. After I did this cold air thing, after the hard/fast/long driving, it idles smooth as can be. So thats pretty cool.

OK! I found the issue.

Here goes...

When I'm doing anything over about 47MPH and either holding the speed steady or increasing the speed, everything is fine. I can do this either manually or by using cruise control.

Now, when I slowly decrease my speed after reaching atleast 47MPH, either manually by letting off the gas or by pushing the down button on my cruise control, thats when the car stutters.

Now then, any ideas why it's doing this? Again, this JUST started happening soon as I installed my makeshift cold air intake. Is it getting too much air or what?

no the more air the better... its something else, check all the stuff that u might have accidently touched while doing it..

Maybe when I take it in to have it tuned by the performance shop after my exhaust is put on they will know what exactly the issue is. In the meantime I will check if I bumped anything out of place, but I don't think I did...

OK, I am uninstalling this thing. It's making my engine freak out.

I actually did a test. I took another part of tube and bent it in the same way it's bent under my hood. Then I went 50+MPH and hung one end of the tube out the window. Woah, the thing pushes some serious air out the other end. I'm sure I need to have it reprogrammed to make up for all the extra air it's pushing.
