Ive been having this problem for quite a while now. Been to 4 different mechanics and NO ONE can find a leak. The smell is sometimes real strong and faint other times. 3 or 4 times now I've had to park my car because there was so much smoke coming from under the hood, and each time I've taken it to the dealership afterwards and NOTHING... its like my LS is crying wolf!!!

Anyone else had this problem?

what year / model?

has someone looked under the COP covers into the spark plug wells for oil pooling?

Has anyone looked under the coil covers?

I honestly have no idea..the first two times I went to the dealership, after they didn't find anything I went to two old school mechanics that can fix anything..and still..NOTHING..

is this something fairly simple that I can do myself?

yep - the covers use 7mm bolts - some are hard to reach - but nothing too technical. once off - if you see oil in the spark plug wells - you found your problem. Leaking valve cover gaskets is a very common issue.

Im with everyone else, it seems NO mechinic will ever be wise enough to check the coils and plugs on these things.

Ill bet $100 you take out your coil packs and you will see oil in your plugs.

Sorry, but I see this a lot and it bugs me for some unknown reason.

They are COPs (Coil-On-Plug) not coil packs. Coil packs are setups where two or three coils fire four or six cylinders. The LS (and many other cars) is one coil per cylinder.

I really do appreciate this information..this will be my weekend project
