OK I've been working on my engine compartment all day shavin her up and 7 hrs in to it I get a call from one of my Mark brothers who needs a hand installing Gen 1 HID's. So I needed a break from all the sanding and sanding and sanding and sanding... and then sanding, so we start rappin about this and that and he comes out with a piece of LVC info that i was a virgin to hearing. Now my bud is no regular LVC rookie so I rarely ever question what he says but I was told that a gen2 front clip will bolt up to a GEN 1 !!!!
My original idea was to modify gen 1 fenders to fit a gen2 header panel and headlights. But now i hear I may be ablt to bolt it up! Please if anyone knows any real solid info on this, no should or coulds, please let me know.
Here is some of the latest pics, its my first shave job so if you have any suggestions they are welcome. Thanks for any help.

would be a nice thought, but im pritty sure it doesnt bolt up.
 
PM Geno (OneBadMk8) for the definitive answer but I believe the fenders, hood and front clip are different. So if you do all the above, it should work. (me thinks)
 
Jeremi (m_maker) saw a first gen with a second gen front clip in Michigan once. He took photos. It looked...umm....different.

I would really like to see the pics. I think I would rather see the gen 2 lights customed into the gen1 front clip. If any photoshoppers out there could show me whats up thad be cool. I was also going to try to moify the stock housing with dome projectors or something but i put the gen 2 housing up against an empty headlight hole and it looked like it would fit under the hoodline with some mods. trying to come up with a lighting alternative cheaper than the HID's.

I believe that was a factory prototype, one of a kind type deal.
 
you will have to replace the entire front end to make it work. I would like to do it someday tho. I would rather have a gen 1 front end with the gen2 rear.


BTW.... is that filler on top of paint? No good. :D

I Too Beleive It's A Diff Bolt On From Thos Yr Differances
 
Now-i Now This Sounds Stupid For A Min But I Just Have To Say..... From 93 To 98 I Think The 97 N 98's Look Puffier Or More Fatter Body Wise Then The Older Models..for Some Reason Thos 93 To 96 Look Skinnier Or Flatter,narrower,umm....if You Put The 2 Cars Side By Side..im Seeing..that Their May Be Bolt On Issues Regarding Swapin Noses,like Fenders Hood,bumper...and The Liite Are Obiviously Not Gonna Fit-2 Diff Styles To Begin With...it's The Shape Of The Lights Thats Throwin Off The Whole Pattern Differance On The Car...am I Sorta Right Or Sound Retarted?

No that is not filler on top of paint. I first filled the entire area with long strand glass then filled the underside with the same. Next I tore down the glass to shape, then filled with filler. I tore down the paint prior to all this and put in primer. Today I should have 1 side in primer complete the other almost complete. Ill post pics tonight. Yes I agree I liike the gen2 rear as well. But i am looking to do is solve the ill lighting issue up front and what better way to do it than doing a one off custom swappins! Now I am very interested in preserving the bold and beautiful body lines that make a mark, but want to research my options. I am going to test fit a gen2 fender later today, Ill post results. Thanks JJ

Theres a ton of movement and flexing in that area. I can see this being a cracking pita in the future.

Ya cause builders who put enough time and effort into shaving an engine compartment, usually would leave the rest of the car stock and probably wouldnt install some "unibody stiffening media" to prevent some of this "pita growth".

SEANKLSC- BTW.... is that filler on top of paint? No good.

Is it cause im new to the forum im so quickly underestimated?

I brought that up, because it looked like you were slathering filler over paint. I never said that I underestimated you. I have a "little" bit of expierence in this field and have done the very thing you are doing now. But to be honest, you should'nt have glassed' over those holes.

They should have been welded, ground down, and then putty'd over. This is my project 95' that i completed about 2 months ago.

Wow Mike. That's the first time I've looked at that thread. Happened b4 I joined. You did a buttload of work on that car. It really makes me appreciate your car even more knowing that you did almost all of the work yourself. Did I mention that it's the nicest Mark VIII I've ever seen? Way to go Mike!
 
Update Pics! Engine Compartment Finished! Check It Out.

Finally got some progress recently and finished the shave job. During this time I also prepped and bedlined my k-member. The Bedline looks good and seals the metal real good and way easy to keep clean. So after experimenting with custom porting on my primer gun and some thinning I was able to spray the stuff. I liked the end product so much I decided to bedline the engine compartment. Im looking forward to seeing the shiny engine gleamin int the tuff bedline. Whats every one think. Most people who havent seen pics hate on the idea but I think its serious..

I once thought about replacing a rotten vinyl top with bedliner.. it's tough stuff. Pics.
