Ok,
I've searched the forum and I can't find how to replace the thermostat on my 00 LS V8. I have my thermostat and I now need to know what else im going to need and the correct procedure to do it. Sorry for the stupid question.

First, let your engine cool.

1. remove cap on degas bottle and open air bleed screw
2. loosen radiator draincock, and drain all coolant. Should be about a gallon.
3. while coolant is draining, remove the intake air tube.
4. remove 3 bolts on thermostat housing
5. remove old thermostat, noting it's orientation. The little metal ball on the thermostat should be at 12 o'clock
6. replace with new thermostat, noting it's orientation.
7. replace 3 bolts in thermostat housing.
8. close radiator draincock
9. remove engine fill cap ( on top of thermostat housing/coolant tree pipe). It has an allen type fitting on the top. I used a T55 IIRC to open it.
10. refill with coolant, until no more can be added.
11. replace engine fill cap.
12. follow bleeding procedure in tech articles.

Is there another way to remove this cap other than the method listed above?
