how to remove fibreglass resin?

I was repairing the inside of the door panel where the previous owner had cracked it in several places. I was using Bondo fibreglass. I had the door panel sticking out of the trunk and some of the resin dripped thru onto the painted bumper. I tried to wipe it off but that made a bigger but thinner mess. Acetone is to be used to cleanup,but I'm worried it may remove the paint as well? Does anyone know what to use to get the now dried thin layer of fibreglass resin off without damaging the bumpers paint underneath?

You might get lucky and it will peel off..... With or without the paint depending on how good a wax job on that spot...

Its a smeared spot now. Been za couple of days.

Use denatured alcohol or acetone if that doesn't get it off, you'll probably need to hit the area with a rubbing compound after and rewax

Is denatured alcohol the same as 90 proof rubbing alcohol? I afraid the acetone will disolve the paint underneath.

hopefully you have enough wax under the resin, when was the last time you waxed?.. your car that is

should have left the drip to dry then just popped it off now its going to be tough and you will proabbaly have to scrap it off as cured fiberglass resin will not soften

Thanks maybe I can get it off with rubbing compound?

nope rubbing compound is going to want to rub threw it might try a razor blade and carfully try to slid it under the resin and you may get luck and it will pop off

It is just a smear. Dulled the painted surface.

Is what you are saying is that rubbing compound will not wear down the smeared resin?

nope it wont resin is pretty hard stuff so if you sat on it trying to buff it off more than likely you would burn threw around it
