Hi guys,

I recently bought a 2003 LS. It is in very good shape (only 2 minor scratches) except for the front bumper (ignore the couple of bugs). It is just speckeled with all these little gray spots. I can't tell if they stains or chips or whatever. I have tried scrubbing the area over and over and it hasn't gotten better one bit. Any idea on how to clean it up?

It is pretty noticeable especially when I cleaned and waxed my car the front bumper just looked....bad.

Thanks guys!

What do they feel like? Are they raised, like just gunk that won't come off? Or does is look more like the bug remains might have been on the surface too long, and started to eat away at the clearcoat? I fear it's the second reason, and either a wetsand/buff is in order, or a repaint.

re-paint it it shouldnt run you more than 100 dollars to get it done. Or paint it yourself if you're skilled and have the material.

Yeah, I wouldn't do a maaco paint job. To have my bumper painted by someone reputable would run me 250 bucks.

good thing for me is that I have the tools I have a good spray gun and compressor and im skilled so im good to go.

I would like to learn how to paing my bumpers as well. Any tips you can share? What are the steps you follow? What's the result (anywhere close to factory)? Thanks.

I have the exact same issue. Car is in great shape but my front bumper is all chewed up - guess that's what I get driving a major highway to and from work every day. What do you guys think a reasonable price would be to not only paint the front bumper, but also fill the license plate holes and such?

Mine looked like that when I bought my LS. Had it worked into the purchase order to have it repainted. It's the only thing I could think of to fix it.

If you have never painted before, I can guarantee you will do a bad job, if you have painted before and you are trying to do this in your garage I can guarantee you will do a bad job.
Unless you are prepared to shoot this bumper several times and do a :q:q:q:qload of wetsanding. Pay a pro with a booth and get your bumper back the next day with great results. Its also worth a little more if you can find a good painter.
There are more bad pros out there than good ones. Price usually reflects quality...except at the dealers. Check out the finished jobs before you commit its worth fifty bucks more for a good job. The best shops do all their painting in the morning. (The dust has settled in the shop)

Aye, same issue on my 02' years of bug and road debris scars. I recently stopped by the PPG store and got a quote on materials to repaint myself (my wife can paint like hell lol)
To do it right,
$228 for just enough to do the front bumper. 2 stage paint, all the thinners, primer, etc.
They offered a cheaper one stage paint, but couldn't guaranty perfect match for around $100, also including, the various thinners, and primer.

Admittedly mine is in a little rougher shape than iamyourdemize's. similar spots, just they had already gone through the paint to the plastic.
