how to find out what coil is bad?

just replace everything and keep driving

if you have over 100K on the coils and plugs, just replace everything, new coils, plugs and valve cover gaskets. Then you're all set for another 100k miles. I used ebay coils, autolite platinum plugs and felpro gaskets from rockauto. Also check all vacuum lines for cracks, this will also cause rough idles and stalls. My 01LS runs great 114k.

I picked up a set of 8 coils on ebay for $139.95
From what I looked up on this forum (before I bought them) they seem to be good coils for the money. And a lot cheaper than spending $50 a piece through Autozone.
The ebay seller was "per4mance_part$" They have 100% feedback. They shipped me the coils priority for free. Got them within 3 days. And after working all night tonight I'll be putting them in this morning. :)

I bought the same coils from the same store, and mine ran great for 5 days. Then it started missing again... pulled the covers and sure enough, one of the new coils failed...replaced it with one from advanced auto, and been running a month or so with no issues. I have heard horror stoties in the past that ebay coils don't last...we will see.

Disturbing input on the coils, I looked them up on here before I bought them. There's a thread with 10 or so replies of people running them for thousands of miles with no issues. If there's a problem they have a 2 year warranty so I'm not too worried.

yeah, I saw that, but I have not contacted them yet over the first failure...If it stays at just 1, then its not worth it to me to even deal with it, but if more start failing, I'll be sending them back.

About a month ago, I was having a really bad misfire and had to drive it pretty rough for a day or two before it through out a CEL. When it did, Cylinder 1 and 6 came up as misfiring.
I was planning on doing the plugs anyway, so I just went ahead and swapped them out with the NGK Platinums and my car was running like new again ;). Was scared I would have to replace all the coils (again) but seemed like it was just the plugs.
Not a bad job at all on the V8, just get the right tools (swivel extensions definitely came in handy) and dont rush through it and you'll be fine. I think it took me about two hours from start to finish and that was me taking my time and just enjoying another DIY job on the LS!

No sh!t?

I live in Edmond. What does your car look like? I am always on the prowl for other LS owners

Mine right now is a stock pearl white Ls. nothing fancy. In fact, there is tint on the sides, but none on the rear. The guy that was going to tint it for me, didnt cause I left work in stillwater. Now I am in okc, so I will have to take it to a shop and get it tinted.

I recommend advanced auto tint on broadway. They did a nice job on my LS.

We need to get a central states LS meet going this year. Would be nice to see a meet somewhere other than MN

Hey, you keep leavin out the STL. guys. We meet up 5-6 times a year...usually there is only 3 of us, but still....:)

You stl guys would be included.

We have members scattered in OK KS MO and AR. We could easily do like a four corner meet and have a nice turnout

What did it run, couple hundred? to get it all the way around?

I need to find a place that will stick 5% on all the windows. I know that is isnt good and the police dont like it, but I dont do anything wrong, so I will put up with it.

How dark are your windows? I know Edmond are really bad about the tint.

I got 5% there. All windows for 180 cash under the table. I am gunna go back there for a light windshield tint eventually.

I have never had problems with the tint in edmond before. The car I had before the LS was also illegally tinted. I thought edmond was actually pretty good about it.

Kinda pricy for under the table. A buddy owned a shop here in the city and he always tinted mine at cost. Since then, him and the "co-owner" had disagrements. like usual, and he closed, but I could get the front windshield and all the sides and rear for $70, I always gave the guy in the back $40 for doing it for me.

Edmond police are real bad about tint. They have had problems with cutting tint on cars, since then,I think that they have had enough compinants, that they have slowed down.

Where in the Edmond area are you at?
I am usually on 2nd to Blvd down to Memorial and Bryant.

They still lifetime warranty the work even though it's under the table. I have referred several people to them. They are two chill dudes that do it. They just don't want to have a credit card or anything linking back to the illegal tint job to cover their own asses.

I live near I-35 & 2nd.

I go to school @ UCO and am usually all over that same area you just said. We need a get an OK LS meet! lol, there's a kid @ UCO that drives an gen1 black LSE too.

When I lived in stlly and drove to Okc, I would always stop at that convience store there on the corner.

I am in college again! I just stopped working at Stillwater Designs (Kicker) and returning to school at Oklahoma Christian Univ this last semester. So, I am just up the road from you.

If there is a meet, I will most likely make it. Shouldnt be a problem. Just wish that I had the extra cash to throw at the Ls right now. I hate stock cars! This is the only car, besides a Gen III camaro that I had years ago that I have left stock.

I may hit you up again about the tint later. If they will warrenty it, that is good enough in my book. ( and they do have a good rep) There are not too many places that will tint it that dard anymore around here
