How much to fill your Mark

So I can buy another pick-up truck at a steal of a deal from some fool who bought his to keep up with the Joneses and can't afford the fuel, of course.

That's my thinking too! High gas prices are the best time to buy a less than efficient vehicle. I've scored more deals from people who over extended themselves than anything else. Sorry, but tough times are great times for me.

Will do the bulk of my car shopping this summer for a performance vehicle.

Course I have been thinking a lot lately of a certain AMG I know of. Been reading up a lot of them lately. More impressed than I was previously.

AMG... pfft.

Bitchy, moody, expensive to run, thirsty as all get... A pair of high maintenance girlfriends are cheaper. Hell, three of them!

But I have to admit, nothing quite puts a grin on your face when you wanna... go.

You know the type of girls I find myself with. They fall into that category quite well. So I feel "at home" in those scenarios.

Although the car creates far far less "drone at speed" than any female. ;)

This is true. It doesn't bitch... well, the exhaust does when the motor forgets to send it memos on what it's about to do, but other than that... I agree. It just does what it's told and still tries to keep you out of trouble.

I haven't look at the price of gas here but for the last couple of years I make sure my parents put in 91.

I will say this though.I will sure be glad when I can drive the car every day myself.

Filled up the other day, $4.37/gal. = $70

sure beats filling up my 82 Jimmy with a 32 gallon tank. That thing is parked for a while.

I've only had my Mk ~2 weeks now, and put only ~500 miles on it. And except for one time, I've used 91-93 oct. in it.

Higher MPG using premium has only been touched on in this thread, but here's my experience from a few days ago.

I live in a rural area of GA, and the little country store down the road only carries regular unleaded (87). I hopped in the Mk to "go to the city" for some supplies (auto parts, hardware/paint, and some junk from Walmart)... about a 150 mi. round trip. The fuel gauge was low, so I checked the car computer and it said "2 Gallons to Empty". I stopped and got $10 of 87 at the store and reset the computer MPG readout. Got to town and the average MPG was 20-21, and this was *highway* mileage alone, driving "normal"... at the first good gas station, I stopped and bought some 91 oct. and reset the computer again. Cruising around in stop-and-go traffic, hauling arse on the four lane to get from one side of town to the other, kicking it to change lanes to be able to make a turn, then home on the highway again at 70-75 mph... average MPG = 24.7!!!

I did the math as soon as I got home, and the premium gas cost me 5.4% more than regular, but I got 17.6% better gas mileage with the 91 oct (PLUS it's better for the engine).... I'm SOLD on high-test. :)

$3.81 for regular ($4.05 for 93 octane) in Seven Lakes, NC today.
$3.69 for regular ($3.93 for 93 octane) 20 miles away in Candor, NC today.
$3.79 for regular ($4.03 for 93 octane) 10 miles down the road in Biscoe, NC today.

I just don't fuggin' understand it. We filled my wife's '97 LSC up at Sam's in Fayetteville last weekend at $3.82/gal for 93 octane. Took $65 to fill 'er up. It's going to get to the point that I won't be making enough money to drive...

4.15 a gallon for premium. I dont like having less than half a tank so most of the time it costs 20-30 to re up.

$4.49 for premium in the east bay with four refineries within twenty miles. It's cheaper in Pheonix. Of course gas sold in California is made special for California to meet government regulations.

But I don't sweat it because my Mark is paid for, the insuance is cheap, and registration fees are low so I can buy alot of gas with the money I don't spend on a crappy new car.

last time I spoke with my wifes cousin in England he was paying 5 euros for a liter. Now that sucks!

Quit complaining! Diesel is 4.09 here. I filled up my 40 Gallon main tank and the Auxiliary 110 gallon tank the other day and wondered when in hell we'll see 6 dollars per gallon. Why?

So I can buy another pick-up truck at a steal of a deal from some fool who bought his to keep up with the Joneses and can't afford the fuel, of course.

Diesel is 4.19 here... Every time I mention selling my truck people automatically jump to the "Oh tired of paying for diesel?" but I just want to upgrade... lol Hopefully I can get something reasonable. Premium was 3.88 at one place and less than 5 miles down the road it was 4.09. Hell at those prices my truck doesnt seem too bad when it get close to 18 empty...
