My dad has a van and that thing starts on the first click. My ls take 3 or 4. I was wondering if this is how the ls' just are and start with more clicks needed. This guy at a shop needed 2 or 3 tries tio start it, it would click twice and he would let go thinking it would start but nope. I'm use to it by now but maybe It something that can be fixed. How many does it take your ls to start?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean.
My 06 LS starts very quickly (maybe two seconds of holding the key), and does so every time.
My 04 LS also starts on the first try every time, but does take a little longer (maybe three to four seconds).
Both are V8s.

Mine is a little different. Every time it'll start with a single press (holding down 1-2 seconds) of the starter button, whether its 90 degrees or -20 degF.

Most of the time it starts on the first turn over of the engine. Less than a quarter of the time (and usually when its colder out), it'll flash the lights, sound like its about to turn over, then not even try to turn over. Then without any more clicks, it'll wait two seconds and then start instantly.

It seems like its about to try to start, checks that something isn't ready, waits, then starts. It never fails to start, and only ever takes on button press, but I've never had a car that will abort the first attempt, wait, and try again.

However, it will always start, and never require a second press. Its an 02 V8.

mine takes just about a full second to fire up.

Yeah, I'm bad with time estimates, it might just be a second for the one and two for the other. It's not any change, the 04 has always taken a little bit longer than the 06. I wonder if it is some PCM firmware difference?

That's a classic symptom of a loose electrical connection somewhere between the battery and the starter (probably closer to the battery).
There is no abort feature in the LS electronics for starting the car.

I had thought it might be something like that, but as it never happens on a key start, which I do much more often, I never really looked into it.

You're thinking is a loose connection between the battery and the starter, or the battery and the command start? If its the starter itself, shouldn't it happen with a key start as well?

Thanks.

I am not sure what you mean clicks.

I am assuming you mean... turn key, rrr rr rr , stop, turn key again, rrr rr rrr, stop etc.

If this happens after sitting overnite or after a long time parked, it could be the return check valve for the fuel lines back to the tank.

Many cars have this valve. It keeps the fuel pressure up while the car sits for some time. This allows the engine to start relatively quickly if the valve is working correctly. If it leaks, the fuel pressure slowly bleeds off and then the fuel pump has to build pressure before the injectors will fire.

The reason it will start up after several tries but not if you just keep the key in start is... There is timer in the computer for the pump when the key is first turned. The pump will run a few seconds and if the engine does not start, the pump turns off. By turning the key off, you reset the timer and the pump tries again. Eventually there is enough pressure for the engine to run and so then the pump stays on.

On the LS I am assuming the return check valve is near the tank under the rear seat.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Yeah I mean you turn the key to start the engine and the started goes and it tries starting the engine, how many times does it go grr grr grrr wroooom.lol. Something alon those lines. My dads van take one and it starts on the first. My ls takes about 3, not 3 seconds but three of those grr grr grr before it starts running.

It's always started like that even after using it and turning it on a minute later. It takes about a second to turn on and about 3 started clicks. So you're saying that it doesn't start right away because the return valve needs to push gas forwards and its not there when I turn my car on because there is a leak.

My 04 V8 takes like 2 seconds I would estimate... Probably 1 full second if I had just turned it off and the engine is still warm.

So it doesn't strart on the first click or turn or crank, whatever its called, by the started to the engine then right?

My Ls was hesitating to start. I found a small crack on the rubber hose at the fuel rail. I cut the end and put it back on the rail.
In-order to buy that piece fron Ford, I would need to purchase the complete fuel rail.

god I read this thread title and just wanted to tell you to go ask Mr. Owl

"wehehehl let's find out

ah 1,
ah 2,
ah 3....
START
3..."

Ya 3 here too.
Only time it's more is if I have the battery disconnected
(which was a lot when I spent 100+ hours installing my(sig) monster stereo)
and then reconnect it.
Could go up to 10.
