How do you put in the refrigerant?

I got a kit for the R134a. It has a gauge but where do I hook it up for this to work. There are two places the guy told me. The first one is in the front passenger side and the second one is in the back of the hood near the passenger side. (Its on a big round thing, Sorry I am not good with names of the stuff)

I think its the one in the front because it fits there, in the back one, its small.

So if it is the back one, how much farther do you have to push it in? I started the car up and put it on the coldest setting but the gauge didn't move at all? (am I not pushing it farther down?

BTW its on the 93 Mark VIII

you can hook a gauge upto the high side(front passenger port) and a gauge upto the low side(rear passenger/firewall ) they are different sizes yes,if you got a quick charge kit with only one guage my guess is that it is for the smaller back port,

you should NEVER charge a system on the high side (big port in front) high side port is only for pressure reading and evacuation of the system

can you explain better what you bought? or show pic.
 
it should only be able to plug into 1 of the ports (the low side) it "should" also have a blue colored cap on it. if the guage wasnt reading, its a bad guage or it just wasnt pluged in corectly.
 
ok this is it, sorry the quality sucks.

BTW Am I suppose to take the rubber piece out? It was on the top but It pushed down since I applied pressure

you have to pull up on that blue part, then push it on to the low port.

if you want to pm me, i can give you a hand. i live down the street from NAS, so i am really close to you.

the blue ring right near where it goes on low side port, as you push it onto port you need to pull the blue part back to get it on all the way,then release it to lock on,

you need someone to show you or you might mess it up and get pissed at yourself
 
Well me and bryan met up today and couldn't get the thing on. BTW thanks again Bryan for taking your time and Helping me out.

I went To pepboys and looked at the others and found that the part was defective. They exchanged it for me and it fit on the low side perfectly. I started my car and put it on auto 60 degrees and the gauge was reading in the Alert level.

So should I release some pressure to get it down to the normal level? or is it something else?
 
Those adapters suck big time. They can act up weird which is why I picked up a set of real AC gauges for $30 at Harbor Freight.

But when I used the one that you have I had to apply some pressure to the back of it. Basically push it on a little more for it to read right.

Also, your putting it on the port right by the firewall, right?

edit: and put the AC on MAX.

yea I am checking it through the firewall low side port. I had the AC on auto to 60 Degrees but I will check it on max and push it down like you side to see if it changes. It a liitle too hot right now I will see when it gets a little cooler.

BTW Should I release the pressure if it is still high? and I would be doing it from the high side port right?
 
first answer NO dont release the psi, your not supposed to vent this stuff into the atmosphere.
second answer, and i am NOT a ac expert, (boss man wants me to learn lol) but it could be a plugged orface tube maybe a bad reviever dryer (big black can your hooking on to)
 
Exactly. High pressure is not good and means something is very wrong - or the gauge is screwed up! Releasing pressure is not going to help.
 
also the low put has NO valve core in it. at all, just a little green ball. maybee he will post a pic of it. my 95 has a valve core, but his 93 just has this little green ball.
 
OK so I went and put it on max AC and put the gauge on. The gauge never settles in one place, also the cars nosie changes as the gauge goes up and down.(20 psi to 45 psi). I tried it on my Other Mark VIII and it stays steady on the normal range. So would anyone know why the gauge is going up and down? Maybe a leak? Also the pipe near it was as cold as my 97 mark VIII.

The gauge is SUPPOSE to go up and down! :) Did you even read the manual? :P

When the compressor is running pressure goes up. When off, it goes down. (or opposite, but I think thats right!)

What you are looking for is that when it goes up it stays in the safe area.
 
I guess I will just take it to a mech. and let him figure it out...lol
