I purchased a 97 mark today. And it will not start. seems like it has something to do with the key. Everything turns on for the most part, but when you turn the key. NOTHING. Can anyone tell me how to bypass the ignition on this car?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the PATS is active, and it needs to be bypassed. I am not sure of this, but had a similar situation with a different car. I think you will have to get a new key. Anyone else care to chime in?

Is the anti-theft light blinking rapidly on the center display, when you try to start it?

Otherwise, maybe it's the starter...

Did you test the battery and check the connections?

If that's good, put 12 volts to the starter solenoid, it should crank then.

If the PATS system is "triggered", the anti-theft light should be blinking rapidly with the key on. Check for 12V at the starter solenoid when the key is turned to start. If none, it is the PATS system or wiring (possibly simply a battery connection).

I'm not sure on the Gen2, but there is a relay in the Gen1 that can be bypassed to disable the anti-theft.

If the Anti-Theft, is not blinking rapidly, the check and clean your terminals and the post connectors. :shifty: I'm just sayin'.
If it still wont start, you may have a bad SCIL.

Everything in the original post happened to mine. Got
mine running after I replaced the SCIL module.

Thanks guys. We have given up on starting the car. We are now parting it out.

under the steering column with a flat head screw driver, pry the cover off, then yank at all the wires, cut two random ones and touch them together, at least thats how they do it in hollywoood
