most people dont realize the more important numbers are the ones that fall "under the curve"..rather than the ONE number that represents the "PEAK" HP.
I can show you a car that has 10 less peak HP that will kick the DOG CRAP out of a car with 10 more peak HP, because the lower hp car has "more HP under the curve", since the owner was more worried about the correct numbers rather than shooting for a worthless "peak hp gain".
As said above..
peak numbers are for bragging ricers.
I was talking 2000lb Civic Vs 2000lb Civic, both optimized for their respective power plants.
My previous statements stand.
Unfortunately I am not seeing it. If said 4 banger Honda made the 305 at lets say 4000rpm and the V8 one @ 5000rpm
What if the V8 Civic can't hook up![]()
It's on slicks with that John Force dude behind the wheel.![]()
Wouldn't happen that way. And yeah, torque is what pushes the car, hence the big V8 wins.
If I said the peaky, 'full of holes' powerband 4 banger made 305 peak horsepower at 8500 rpm and the big, relatively flat powerband V8 made 300 peak horsepower at 5500 and everything else was same. Which would win?
It's a pretty simple concept, I can't believe the discussion is getting so deep. I used the 4 banger Civic vs a V8 Civic as a simple analogy to help others grasp the concept of peak HP numbers meaning nothing.
If peak number chasing was all that mattered, why get a quality tune? Might as well get an Ebay chip, right? That's almost what this discussion started from.
Stickers. Remember, the more you have the faster it can "go".
Yeah but if said 4 banger is boosted then it can very well make the 305 @ 4000rpm as my WRX made 405whp @ 4500rpm with 380ftp trq. There are plenty of ways to make HP now and people with good old V8's get PWNED all the time @ E-town :shifty:
Well, we've gone way off topic. A simple analogy to help illustrate that peak numbers aren't everything in the case of a Mark VIII tune has turned into something else entirely.
Now you have started the forced induction 4 banger Vs V8 debate. I'll tell ya know. Mod for mod, and all other things being equal, a large displacement V8 will own a small displacement 4 banger. Period.
V8 > I4. Name ONE I4 that can run 4's in the quarter mile... Oh ya, there isn't one!
Plenty of V8's though...![]()
