holy short runner cobra intake batman!

Well my car is out of commission right now. When i get a stall, i was hoping to run low 13's..

Those cams and ported heads i got helped out a lot!!

Yes your mark is fast but I'm knockin on your door. Stock pipes,cats and intake. Wonder what mine would run with all your mods? Probably what yours runs right. Nice run man!

Stock 03/04 Cobras were rated at 390HP but it is widely accepted they were under rated based on real world dyno numbers.

20rwhp gain with a ported short runner is very attainable in a Mark. Cobra guys have proven more then that. The stock intake is done by 6k, a PSP Cobra will pull much harder up top after the peak.
 
The stock gen 2 intake manifold is definately not done at 6000rpm like you say. My car makes peak horsepower at 6300rpm and after that it doesn't lose much maybe ~5 horsepower until it hits the limiter. With the gen 1 intake manifold I would shift at 6500, with the gen 2 at 7000. But yes a short runner cobra intake will gain quite a bit of power over a stock Mark VIII manifold. I sold CobrastarLSC his short runner intake, it was done by a speed shop in Detroit. His 1/4 mile times don't lie.

Short runner intake CobrastarLSC has is a over kill and the runners are way too short.You don't want to cut off more than 1.5" from runners.

I have a 97 mark with a cobra intake I disassembled and ported/polished. I chose not to shorten the runners to maintain as much torque as possible. I did knife edge the area that splits the air into the valves and polished all the runners as well as gasket matching. My car has mandrel bent 2.5" duals, the intake, 4.10 gears, mmx d/s, and 18x9 wheels. I dynoed 249hp and 249 tq. and alternative auto on a hot humid day (85 degrees). I never dynoed it stock, but I'm pretty sure there aren't any stock gen 2s doing 250 to the wheels. I personally don't feel like taking and inch or 2 of the runners would have bumped me up to 265 or 270hp, fwiw. However, the car is much faster with the intake.

One other note about tuning. I had a reinhart chip in my car when it was stock. After I put the intake on Lidio dynoed the car with no changes to the the dennis chip. The car dynoed around 244. So the custom tune done by lidio who is supposed to be the man around here only gained 5 hp. It did make the tranny shift way better which made it well worth the money.

I also ditched EGR with the intake swap.
 
A tune isn't going to gain you HUGE amounts of power, especially if you already had a tune to begin with....
 
Not only that, peak horsepower doesn't mean much. The spread of power / torque and the overall safety and driveability are what a good tune is all about.

Peak number bragging is for ricers.

most people dont realize the more important numbers are the ones that fall "under the curve"..rather than the ONE number that represents the "PEAK" HP.

I can show you a car that has 10 less peak HP that will kick the DOG CRAP out of a car with 10 more peak HP, because the lower hp car has "more HP under the curve", since the owner was more worried about the correct numbers rather than shooting for a worthless "peak hp gain".

As said above..
peak numbers are for bragging ricers.

Peak horsepower is important because you can use gearing to make the most of it. Why do you think there are so many fast Honda's out there when they have no power under the curve... they are light and have like 4.70 gearing which gets them in their powerband fast.

Yup. A car with big 'holes' and flat spots through it's power band isn't gonna beat a car with slightly less peak HP with a good solid power band, regardless of the 'band aids' the peaky car might use.

What's gonna go faster? A 2000lb tuned N/A Civic 2.0 liter with 305 peak HP or a 2000lb Civic with a 6.0 V8 N/A with 300 peak HP? Obviously it's gonna be the one with the bigger engine due to it's flatter curves.

Yeah and no and I have almost learned by getting my buttox handed to me by 1 of them. At the place I had my car chassis dyno'ed I have one of those big ole hole power bands. I seriously make under 100whp till I hit 4500rpm and then my HP hits 405whp! Car feels unreal :cool:

Then this old Red Civic comes in and my guy tells me do not screw with that car unless it's raining or something like that out. I was like why look at it, it don't look like it can get into the 14's in the quarter? Well that lil peakier powerband than mine will do 11's on street tire and 9's with his slicks on the front.

It is impressive on the sleeper scale but as everyone says "It's still a Honda" :rolleyes:
