Hid Swap In my 93

I want to put Hids in my 93 the housings and all but Im not sure what Ill need or how I need to go about doing it as far as I understand they pretty much bolt in eccept for mounting the ballasts? some info would be great thx guys?

so that is what those are! i thought they were fog lamps...lol. i was thinking to myself he has HID's why does he have fog lamps there? lmao! but that is a nice setup with the ballasts!
 
me personally i hate the idea of the fog lights behind the grille. i think it is looks stupid... nothing against anyone who have done it, just my honest opinion.
 
On my old Mark 8, the ballasts were behind the grille as well, but they were not as noticeable for some reason.
 
two things guys, I read the article it says to install headlight relays but dosnt say how and secondly it says to connect the ballast to the chassis' low beam right? what happens with the hi beam? stays disconnected? thanks guys
 
And I don't have relays in yet so when I turn on the high beams, the HID's {low beams} turn off . also I recommend Sylvania Silverstars for your high beams, They are SUPER bright. :D
 
I agree, I have the silverstars in my highs and signals too. I was thinking of trying some xenon match ones in the highs thou, the silverstars don't match the HIDs to much. Very bright thou.

JC, 30 minutes worth of work and you could keep your lows on while the highs are on. this will cut down on hot restarts which high tension ballasts Do NOT like.


It only involves one jumper wire between the 13 and 15 pins on the multi-function switch. Works like a charm, I have it done to the 94, and the 95 with no problems.

Is the relay OK, or should I replace it too? so far I have not had any problem with it. and I have also avoided hot restarts too, by pulling the multi- function switch all the way back when I need the brights but I dont hold it for too long cause I dont want to fry anything electrical, I will admit wiring is not my specialty.
 
Nah, I don't have any type of problem with it as is. BUT, I do recommend putting a set of relays in the system to lower the current draw on the main headlight switch on start up.


The ballasts draw a TON of amperage while it's heating the hids up, and wires have been known to get hot and eventually melt. It's really simple to do, and actually helps reduce light off time for the HIDs, and makes the high beams brighter.


(edit..... You will still have to do the 13-15 wire jumper to keep the low beams from turning off.)
 
Hey Mike.. How are those projectors coming along, if you worked on em' at all.

Also, I'm looking for some HID's myself. If anyone is selling them fairly new and clean, let me know.

Cool, could you give me some part numbers when you get time? maybe they are listed in the tech link I'll check again. Thanks again man.
 
Second on the Silverstars. They are the next best thing to HID, but of course, HID would neither work with the cornering lights, nor the high beams due to the warm up time.
