I've read tons of posts on here about people installing HIDs into their 'LS. Has anyone had a need to install a harness, or just went that route for peace of mind? I bought an HID kit and installed the driver's side last night, but when I turned the lights on with the engine running, they just flickered for ~20 seconds and then shut off. I tried the same thing on the passenger side with the same results. This tells me I'm not getting enough power to the ballasts, so I'm leaning towards getting a harness. I've had this car for over 2 years, and haven't had much need to dig around under the hood, so I'm assuming there is a distribution block that I can hook the harness up to? I just wanted to see if anyone else has gone with a harness, and what they did to install it since the battery is in the trunk. Thanks, guys!

BTW, this is a 2001 'LS with the V8.

If you wanted to run a separate power source, I'm assuming you would use a relay, then plug into the distribution box under the hood.

Here's the harness I'm looking at. This would normally come off of the battery terminal and to the ballast, but since the battery is in the trunk, I was hoping I could just come off of the distribution box instead of the battery in this case.

thats not too much of a harness... its just a relay powered from else where. very easy to do yourself and probably for way cheaper

Mark did you get the digital or analog HIDs? I had an issue with my analog when I first installed them as well. It turned out to be a bad connection. I do remember buying male/female socket connectors, but I think it was for the fog lights since I converted mine to the 03+ LSE. If you need any help let me know since I'm close. Also I know, from reading the posts, when some of the guys bought the digital set up they had problems at first.

EDIT* Also was your car on when you turned the lights on? I know it sounds funny, but I had to start my car the first time too.

This is what I did, mine are "digital" and did the same thing that you mentioned, the blinking, also this setup will keep everything stock, you can turn your foglights separately or just your headlights what ever you want, also the automatic lights (the module that turns the lights on when its getting dark) work just fine, I did 2 setups one for the headlights and one for the foglights you just need one relay per pair.
Hope it helps :)

Josh,
The kit I bought use digital ballasts. I've heard you shouldn't turn HIDs on without the car running, so each time I tried firing them up, the car was running. I tried turning everything off inside the car that I could(radio, lights, etc) to reduce the draw from the battery, and they just kept flickering. I need to look at the distribution block to see how I can cleanly hook into it. I'll let you know if/when I get a chance to do anything more, and if I still can't get it squared away I'll send you a PM. I appreciate the offer!
