Ready??? LOL, It simply doesnt end.... Ok, I started my car last night & drove it around the neighborhood to see if the fan was working (which it was working since I played around with the plug) & I noticed every time I slow down to a stop from around 10mph - 0mph there's a popping noise that begins to occur as I stop on the passenger side front axle. While I sit still at a light it pops 3-4 more times.
This occurs especially when I go in excess of 60mph & the car lowers. When I reach a red light the compressor kicks in, as the car is raising you will here the 3-4 pops! It sounds like a stuck strut(which I know I don't have) popping back into place...

WHAT COULD THIS BE?!?!?!?

check your lug nuts, i almost did an entire cv change because i was hearing a popping noise everytime i slowed down, ended up being loose lug nuts

Could be ball joints can you feel it in the steering wheel in the form of a shake or shimmy? I'd put my money on ball joints, sway bar end links or something else in the area related to the front end geometry

Didn't you say you needed to replace some front end parts anyway in one of your other threads?

If that is the case why don't you look there first?

Yeah but he also said it's popping while sitting still at a light...And it's making the noise when the ride pump engages?

Could you do us all a favor...load up some nice brightly lit pics of your front end joints

Upper control arms need replacing but they have never made noise!

Yes, it starts making the noise when the pump engages after traveling. I can get you guys some pictures but it will be tomorrow afternoon.

sniff sniff sniff..... Do you smell a coil conversion?????

Nah, I was at that point when I bought the car & I was about to go with a coil conversion but it's true, what is a Mark VIII without it's airbags?... Oh that's right, a Thunderbird with a Cobra engine! lol Nah, j/k guys but truthfully I have no idea what it could be. I'm worried it may be a worn lower ball joint but WHY CONTINUE POPPING WHILE THE PUMP STARTS RAISING THE CAR?!?!?

Mine did it when I needed to replace the upper ball joints. Especially when it would air back up getting off the highway

After mine started having funny noises and odd suspension pump operation it set on fire. I'm happy with the tradeoff of coil springs on my car, I didn't love the ride on my 93 or of any of the 3 marks my buddy had. My spring conversion is undetectable to anyone who doesnt listen for the pump or look under the car, and I don't have any headaches from it popping, leaking, or flaming.

A mark viii is a thunderbird I guess... even with air suspension.... unless you add in the better brakes, dohc engine, much nicer interior, supreme lincoln styling.... maybe it's not as similar as I thought.... ;)

I like the idea of the air ride and all, but after 2 mark viiis and 3 mark vii's, and 3 town cars with air ride I got sick of being scared for my next repair. The 3000 dollars worth of air ride repair bills in the glovebox of my mark that had been adding up for the PO since 2004 agree with me.

I couldn't agree with you more... & trust me, if you look @ my threads from last year, I was there with you! I was ready to cross over however for me, at this point I've replaced a sh!t load of air suspension components & when it comes to the air-ride, I have no problems, it's the bushings that are bad so when it comes to the air-ride I think I'm good for the next year or so(let me not jinx myself). I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Dude, you've been with LVC long enough to know the drill, get the suspect wheel/s off the ground, do the checks and visual inspections...maybe a few of us could chip in for parts for you or something...if I was ever in a situation to help, this is the check for me to be able to...

I wouldn't drive it around the block until I checked the front end.

It may not be safe for you or other drivers.

These cars eat front suspension parts, air ride or coil conversion.

You are absolutely correct! Unfortunately this means the car will sit still for another couple weeks I guess. As some of you may already know I'm getting married so my weekends are beyond tight with pre-wedding itinerary & I cannot work at night infront of my house because I have a HUGE mosquito problem (I've already reported it to the City & they don't do squat!).

You are also VERY correct.

I'm assuming today I will install the famous fan+plug mentioned in my previous thread. Once I'm finished with that I will purposely take off the front wheels & leave the front end on jack stands so that I don't drive it.

I just hate having this car sitting. I swear it sits 3/4 of the year!:(
