help me i have a 01 ls v6 sport and i was just driving it on my way home from work. now when i try to start it up it tries to turnover but wont start then the alarm will go off. does any one know whats going on with my car.

yeh but i think its my starter i'ma just buy one and replace it.

*i just tried both my keys and my valet key

I wouldn't rush into it that fast... Get your battery checked as well. I wouldn't start yanking stuff out.

ok... Im just saying its alot easier to test a battery then to start pull chit out.

everything works fine. my lights are strong my radio works all without starting the car so i'm sure its not my battery. it just wont turn over. it could be my altinator but my battery still seems strong. wouldnt it still start.

Put a voltmeter on the battery and see what it's doing or take it out and bring it to AutoZone and have it checked for free.

I' m going to check my battery but i think its my altinator or starter. Is there a way I can check the starter and altinator

The alternator won't have any effect on the car starting - that's the battery's job. The alternator takes over when the car is running. Now if the alternator is bad and not charging your battery, then yes, it could be the alternator. You can have the alternator tested at AutoZone for free as well, but it's gotta come out.

What happens when you go to start the car? The car will seem to lose all power and do nothing and when you turn the car off the alarm goes off? I gotta say that sounds like a bum battery - either from old age or an alternator not charging it.

Have the battery tested first and then go from there. Do the easy stuff first.

but all my electrical stuff works. lights are still bright and my alarm and my cd player works fine. if i had a dead battery wouldn't my lights be dim. i'll test the battery tomorrow. but if its not the battery fair bet is its the starter right.

*i tried to start it a while ago the guages did a full sweep and it wouldn't start. the alarm going off, is on and off. sometimes it goes off sometimes it doesnt.

IT is likely the battery. It is unable to provide a deep enough draw to turn the car over - and when you try - the draw brings the voltage drop to 0volts and that triggers the alarm.

I have killed my battery 100 times - exactly the same symptoms. Like was stated - it may not be the root cause (alternator may not be charging) but that is likely the problem now.

im real pissed i just dropped off my car at the dealer and i could have :q:q:q:qing read this first...lets see what they try to sell me lol

Yea of course after being in the shop for 2 hours I get a call saying it was the battery . Man I feel like a jackass I waited 6 days to get it to the shop and I coulda been driving this whole time. The guy was surprised it was the battery though he said it was odd even though its the lincoln/mercury dealer you'd think they've seen this many times
