So I was low on fuel today  I went to get some gas just to make it home, as I went to start my car it started idling rough and then cut off. I started it again and NOPE it would not start it just cranked, and after a couple of tries of doing this I drained my battery! :Bang I need some help guys PLEASE!!

Please don't say new fuel pump please!

Thanks!!

If you ran it to low on gas, you might have ruined the fuel filter. First, try replacing the fuel filter.

if you ran it out of gas, you're going to need to add at least 3-4 gallons. there is the actual fuel pump, then a jet pump to accomodate the saddle bag design of the gas tank.

try that first.

do you run it to empty often?

the last guy that ran out of gas had that happen too...then it kept pooping...I think he ended up replacing the pump. :(

yes - the gas actually keeps the pump cool - so without it, the pump over-heats and potentially is damaged before the fuse pops.

Man that sucks. I ran mine down to 1 mile to empty and was going to do a drive through thinking I could make it and decided not to. After that I read all this stuff about running it low and never again have I or will I come close

2nd day I had my LS drive til it showed 0 miles left, and got to the gas station, no problems though, and hopefully I never have any of these prob's

when the fuel gage tells you that you are low on gas, it's time to filler up!! This is a lesson on what can happen to an expensive fuel pump when you push your luck.

Okay I got my fuel pump thing today, How do you remove the rubber rings to access the fuel pump?

the backseat bottom cusion pops off by releasing two black tabs under the front corners. the seatbelts pull through, the center seatbelt needs to be un-done using a paperclip inserted into the hole in the connecting link (you'll see what I mean).

once the seat bottom is out of the way, you will see two plastic covers in the bottom of the floor (seat bottom). pop off the plastic top and the fuel pump is under neath. There is one electrical connector and two fuel lines that just squeeze the locks and pop off.

There is a blue plastic retaining nut - large - holding it down tightly. This is difficult to get off and more difficult to put back on. Ford uses a special tool, I just made on from some metal bar I had. once you get the retianing nut off - then the pump can be lifted out of the tank by unclipping a couple of locking-feet (you can see them on you new one) they snap into a bracket on the inside of the tank.

You have to get the blue retaining nut back on straight - which usually take many trys....

Don't forget to disconnect the battery and be very careful around a gas tank. The manual calls for draining all the gas - I never do, but....

good luck.

Removal and Installation

WARNING:
Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.

WARNING:
Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.

1. Note:
It is not necessary to remove the fuel tank to carry out this procedure. The Fuel Delivery Module can be accessed under the rear seat bottom.

Drain the fuel tank (9002). For additional information, refer to «Section 310-00».

2. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to «Section 100-02».

µ 3. Remove the bolts and the nuts and position the exhaust heat shield on the exhaust system.

µ 4. Loosen the right support strap approximately one inch.

µ 5. Loosen the left support strap approximately one inch.

6. Lower the hoist.

µ 7. Note:
Make sure the fuel line connector is fully seated prior to compressing the release tabs.

Disconnect the module fuel line connectors.

1 Press the release tabs on the module fitting.

2 Turn the fuel line slightly.

3 Pull straight up to remove the fuel line connector.

µ 8. Disconnect the electrical connector.

µ 9. Install the special tool and loosen the lockring retainer nut.

10. Continue removing the lockring retainer nut by hand.

11. Separate the fuel filter.

l Lift up on the module top flange and position it aside.

l Cut the tie strap securing the in tank filter to the locking tab of the module.

µ 12. CAUTION:
The fuel module must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm and the filter during removal.

Note:
The module will contain some residual fuel. Lift straight up and out of the retainer cup and tilt while in tank (float side down) to drain some fuel out of the reservoir. Then straighten and lift straight up and out of the tank. Drain excess fuel into suitable container.

Remove the fuel delivery module.

1 Press the lock tabs and release the module from the tank mounting flange.

2 Remove the module from the tank.

µ 13. Note:
New module assembly flange gaskets must be used. Gently position the module seal by hand and make sure it remains in position during installation. Align the module with the in-tank retaining bracket and push down on the module until the latches snap into position onto bracket. Make sure the fuel line tube connectors are fully seated into the outlet connector fittings.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

l Loosely install a new tie strap to secure the in tank filter to the locking tab of the module. Tighten the tie strap after the module is placed in the fuel tank.

µ Refer to corresponding illustration.

try to remember to put gas in the tank so you wont burn up the new pump. guess you could call that common sense.
