has anyone tried putting clear coat over their headlights after cleaning them or would that not help at all?

If i had some that looked really good, i would put some 3M film on them. That stuff works really good and will just peel off if you damage it!

my headlights are pretty shi**y and i read the lincolns online artcle and it said the yellow was caused by oxidation and waxing it will help stop that so i figured that a few layers of clear coat after i clean them up would do the same without needing to re apply it

I have my old set that is pretty faded. I wanted to try and sand them and clearcoat them. If I ever get around to it I will post some before and after pics

our body shop at work is dead, so i asked the painter (since he has "some" free time) if he could buff the original one that i just had laying around. it looks AWESOME! i asked about the clear coat, and he said thats what made that light look like crap, and they will all yellow with or without the clearcoat

spraying clearcoat on them will make them go to shyt faster. you are better off sanding them, buffing them to a glass finish, and waxing them as often as you wash the car, what does it take to wax a pair of headlights, 3 minutes???? i have sanded and buffed 17 million headlights in the last 10 years and have yet to see one turn yellow again. i mean think about, how old is the average mark VIII? it took that many years for the headlight lenses to look like shyt, so why would sanding one and buffing it make it turn yellow any faster? it wont, it will take many years to make it look bad again.
Catmech just bought some first gen hid housings and sent them to me to " fix up" it looked like someone had sprayed clearcoat on them sometime in the near past, i wish i had taken before and after pics, because all i did to the lenses was wet sand and buff them and they look mint, i did have to rechrome one housing inside though. just sand and buff, dont spray clearcoat on them.

i'll find out tonight, they are finished on the front seat of my truck, i have to pack them up and have my old lady make a label, just gimme your address again with zip so i can forward it to her instead of looking through my old emails! jamies98lsc@aol.com
