Leaving Thurs in the am for my sons graduation from the Naval Training center. Hoping some of you Chicago members could give me some advice on a route once I get there.

Coming from KC up I-35 to I-80 then east to Chicago. Map quest shows some toll roads in my route. Any good way around them? Will be hitting them around ruch hour. Will be staying in Lincolnshire.

Any tips, tricks, advice would be appreciated. If you see a crazy driving hick in a silver 93 Mark with MO plates and ostars that's me.

You should meet up with Viking while your there so you can help him with his car. :D

ummmmmm only advice i can give is DONT COME DURING RUSH HOUR!!! theres lots of ways into the city dodging the tolls, but i wouldn't recommend it if your unfamiliar with the area, just stick with the main roads and come at a different time of day

Thanks Chicken, I'm hoping to beat the rush hour, but that means an earlier start :( or a faster drive :D. I vote faster drive but my mom is coming with me.

Hey a bunch of us will be in the Chicago area also on Saturday ... You should stop over at Joey's ...

Wish I could but headed back to KC on Sat. I wish I could meet up and put some faces with the names. Besides, the LVC crew would scare the hell outta my mom and daughter lol.

The 93 made it there and back. Got 25.3 mpg on the way to and 24.4 on the way back. Speed on way up was 5-7 over the limit and coming back was 10-15 over :). Would have got a little better mileage overall if it wasn't for the top tool box and 2 ton mega floor floor jack in the trunk :D. Added at least 150 lbs to the load. But if I left them home I would have needed them.

I don't envy you Chicago people and your f'd up 50 year old highway system. I saw more orange barrels in and around the city then I have seen in my entire life :).

All in all it was a good trip. Got to spend some time with my son and see how much the Navy has done for him. He went in as unmature kid and came out a mature man. I am sooo proud of him :).
