Hi guys is the Mark viii grille repaintable? I have a spare grille to put on but the original chrome finish is peeling off. Anyone repainted theirs? If so what prep / paints are involved? Thanks in advance.

Martin.

yeah its paintable you have to get all of the chrome off of it though and prep it and primer it. Then you can paint it whatever color you like.

Thanks for the reply. Thats good to know. I want to keep it chrome color so i guess i will have a look for some chrome spray paint suitable for plastic.

Not a bad idea but if the surrounding part of the grill is still chrome you could just make the center section black and leave the outside chrome. A few members here have done that to thier grilles and it looks very nice.

Actually its the outside that has peeled and the inner bars are good. I bought it online from a breakers yard who said it was in good condition! lol. What i will do is sand it down smooth and repaint, being careful to mask the black bits at the sides of the bars. Any recommendation for a particular paint / primer combo? I dont know what sort of plastic it is see...

after you sand it and get it the way you want coat it with bulldog, you can get it from napa in an aerosol can its a plastic adhession promoter and works awesome on flexible plastic as your under coat. then you can put your color of choice over it.

Thanks for that advice i will do just that. I havent found any chrome paints suitable for plastic yet. Any ideas? Once i do top coat it should i put some clear over that?

Hi turborich! i figure if i cant get chrome paint or i mess it up i will either paint it black or body color. (nordic blue) Ideally, i want to keep the car original looking.

I was thinking the other day, ........ and.. I don't see why Geno can't have a face laser cut out of polished stainless like he did with the cobra star emblems. Then you can just re-face the front of the grille, after dulling the edges of the cuts. Sounds cheesey but I think it'd look great. And last.
