governor

I have had mine up to 135 mph before the speed limiter kicked in, that was with the OD turned off.

ive tested it with out my chip on and 126 sounds right. however tonight with my chip on, i went out to see what i could get and i hit 135 with the OD off... it didnt want to go any further.

well with my chip, i should be able to go faster than 135, the OD was off.... car seems to not be going as fast as it used to - i did the seafoam, new oil change. i know when the chip was out it was stopping in the 120's somewhere, so ehh i dunno!

at 135, the it starts to lame out/hesitate/govern?
- lms chip, intake, mufflers deleted + glasspacks,

im gonna have to run it with the od on, see what happends. a new fuel pump may be required.

I don't have a chip & mine is a 95 non LSC. Maybe some are different than others? I know for a fact that my car will do 135 with the OD off. With the OD on it was closer to the 125-130 mark. With the speed limiter off I believe that our cars top out somewhere around 155ish. That's with the stock gearing. I DO NOT know this for a fact, I read it online.

i believe the official numbers are 130mph non lsc

123 lsc

it was all about the driveshaft vibrating.

If you try to run 135+ in OD your tranny is not going to be very happy with you.

Highspeed/highload runs in OD are a "no no", especially in a "pre 98" trans.

My car will point the speedometer needle almost straight down, well past 140 (140 is at about 5 oclock on the dial) mine was pointing down in the odometer area and was still pulling hard when I shut it down.

If your car is "laying down" on highspeed runs, you might want to visit the "new fuel pump club".

IF your car IS running out of fuel "up top" you really REALLY dont want to run it up there, as melted engine parts and melted cats will occur.

Also in the PCM there are more than just "one speed limiter".
There is a top speed limiter and a driveshaft speed limiter.

you have to change quite a few places in the tune to get and actual "un speed limited" tune.

Your running out of fuel. Need a pump. your code is good for 145.

dang that sounds familiar, where I heard that before?
HAHA

Geno said that to me back in 2000 and he was right.

My first pump made it to 150K, swapped the second one out with a 255 walboro at 300K, at 450K I'll swap the 255 out with a new one.

Since the first pump died mere "moments from round 1" and put me out of a points race, I will never run one past 150K again.

yea i figured that, because ive ran it with the chip off and it definetly governed itself somewhere in the 120's. and lately my cars not been having the power it used to have down low, for example when i go wot from idle - it usually would just smoke the tires, now i get a simple chirp.

does a bad fuel pump through a CEL?

other than that its fuel pump time!

oh yea i have 114K on the clock, but somewhere i read something about past 75k? a high output fuel pump is never a bad thing! more fuel more power!

you mean with the OD on or off? - i thought od was like the 4th gear, and by running with the od off your just not using the 4th gear. these gears are so damn long i ran it with it off cuz i can imagine the 3rd gear will somewhere above 150 since 2nd goes to like 90. new fuel pump. then well see whats up.

im sure the LMS chip does that.

gene said 145 where my chip will stop at, so if im poopin out at 136ish, gotta say that im not being governed but my fuel pump is just bunz

XLRVIII, how many miles do you plan on running your car up too?

When I get a running Mark a Walboro 255 will be one of the first things I do, almost a tune up thing. It's also nice to be able to run the tank empty before dropping it.

i was also going to ask how hard is it to replace the fuel pump, im pulling my pumpkin pretty soon - seems like it should be a good time to put in a new fuel pump.

that would be a good time to change the pump.

First time I did the fuel pump it took me 4 hours, mostly due to the fact I was STRANDED AT A DRAGSTIP.. and had to do it "on the ground" and the tank had more than a 1/2 a tank of gas {severe PITA)

Second time I changed the pump, I "planned on doing it" rather than being "forced to do it"..so I got to run the car completely out of fuel.
Which made the job 100% easier and it only took about an hour and a half from start to finish.

On a lift,if you are properly prepared, the job can be done in one hour or less.

Trust me here, you dont want to run IN 4th gear/OD at very high speeds with high load on the engine {such at WOT or near WOT)

you also dont want to make WOT shifts from 3rd to 4th gear, which is what would be happening on these top speed runs.

you SHOULD "baby the 3-4 shift" as much as possible...unless you are in a hurry to pull and replace the trans.

in my tune my car WONT shift from 3rd to 4th with "heavy throttle"/"high load"....You Literally have to "lift the gas" to initiate the 3-4 shift at high RPM's...

This is not by accident... I meant for it to be this way, so I dont make a WOT 3-4 shift by mistake.

in my "race tune" the 3-4 shift simply "doesnt occur".. due to a very high 3-4 commanded shift MPH and RPM.

Again, this is not by accident nor a malfunctioning tune.

If Abe is replacing the pump, would it be a good idea for him to replace the regulator also?
