Today, after dealing with ups, i finally got my 98 Cobra intake manifold. It has shortened intake runners and IMRC deletes that look to be well ported as well as the Throttle body ports look ported well.
Supposedly this will add 40rwhp to the Mark Viii. I find that hard to beleive but we will see.
YES!!!!!

heres a few pics!

Now i just have to get the cobra fuel rails and find a cobra intake tube.!!! going to be SICK!!!! Oh yeah, i forgot about the 4.10's that i have to get first! Damn!

I'd recomend against doing this.
go with the cobra intake but dont do the IMRC deleat.
I did the IMRC deleat, and it kills the tourqe output.
devinatly needs to be on a blower application. other wise you have to gear and stall the hell out of it to get over the low end tourqe loss.

well i still have the stock imrc's in the car so if it comes down to it, i could use those. i dont know though. if i didnt do the imrc deletes and just put on the manifold as is , i wonder if it would drive ok with the stock gearing...??? what you guys think? they are shortened runners so i dont know.

it isnt possible to put that on a 96 4.6 town car would it? when my intake manifold cracks this looks interesting to replace it all with.

it fits any dohc 4.6 with B heads. cobras and mark viiis have them. i dont know about yours????

ill try. is there a good mustang shop anywhere near chicago that anyone has had ANY good experience with?

Cobra intake?

I also highly recommend against this, a stock cobra intake will give you a hell of a loss in low end torque, but a cut back runners on the cobra intake will destroy all low end torque and you wont get any high RPM increases in HP without major work and very low gears, simply the Mark is to heavy. The IMRC's are there to increase low end torque below 3000RPM basically making it a three valve motor below 3000. Add the IMRC delete and cut back cobra intake and you will get a slug. Now if your going to supercharge with 12LBS+ boost and run 4.10's then you might get away with it. PS you will require a custom tune to get it to run.

How different is the C head setup? I have no IMRCs but haven an 01 intake and the car performs very well, especially in the low end.

C heads

B heads are the twin ports that use the IMRC's, primary square port with oval secoundary. These heads really respond well to porting and polishing and have a better lower end torque curve.
C heads are the tumble port heads used on the post 1999 cobras and 5.8DOHC motors, these heads flow better but have a higher torque curve and use a different intake with no IMRC's due to the single head inlet port.
Using B heads in a Mark with a early cobra intake will give you a 10 to 14HP gain but you will lose a little low end torque. With slight mods this may not be very noticeable or of any importance, But a cut back runner cobra intake will kill low end and will be compounded by the IMRC delete, for every inch of runner figure a 10% increase in torque curve an HP.

So if i have 4.10 and that is very close to happening, I should put this shortned runner intake on and leave/clean my stock IMRC's. Then keep the deletes in storage until i get a supercharger/turbo(im dreaming on the turbo(s)) and put them on then.

Basically what i am saying is if i put this on now, with stock gears, i will completely loose my low end power band. But with 4.10's it would be great???

Thanks for the input.!

cobra intake

Yes you could go with the cut back cobra intake and keep the IMRC's intact and not loose a ton of low RPM torque with 4.10's. How much has been trimmed from the runners on the intake? You may also want to consider getting a throttle body spacer to add some intake volume and velocity.
Also if you go with 4.10's and the cut cobra intake you should really consider a stall converter it will amaze you the difference out of the box.
My 97LSC has Isky cams, ported and polished heads, intake gasket matching on the stock intake with mild port work, throttle body spacer, custom air intake and computer program with 3.73 gears, stall converter. It pulls really hard of the line and ran my best time of 13.2.

I take it you have tried an IMRC delete then? I will have to see if i can find them, but with a little tuning, with a locked torque converter we saw no difference in torque on my car. From a stop, with the 4.10 gears and 3400 RPM stall I could feel no difference except in the upper RPM band. I believe I saw an increase of ~8hp peak, average of 12hp and 6ftlbs through the RPM band.

theres a shop out by me...not mustang specific but im positive they have worked on and dynoed plenty of mustangs. ive got plenty of friends i can name that have gone there and gotten their cars worked on then dynoed. shops called Finish Line Performance and they are in Naperville, IL. my father had his exhaust on his chevelle done there about 2 weeks ago.
